Second Backup is a simple but effective tool for storing information externally. While we initially were a bit confused by its interface, Second Backup proved to be a valuable tool for preserving data.
We needed to make a brief stop at the program's instructional Help file to fully understand the interface. Fortunately, a little reading unlocked the program's secrets. We were quickly able to take complete control, thanks to its simple Wizard-like layout. We immediately set up a Profile, which told the program specifically which files to back up, ranging from a single folder to an entire desktop, and on what device to save them. A mass storage device like a USB stick or external hard drive is the best choice for backups, but Second Backup will handle a range of devices. A pleasing surprise was its ability to schedule automatic backups by day, week, or month. It also lets you choose how many backup copies to keep, which helps conserve storage space. Second Backup quickly and accurately saved all of our data to the selected destination. It also has a neat feature that compares files, which could come in handy if you've made a lot of backup copies and need to determine which copies have specific information. Overall, we were able to overcome some interface issues to fully embrace this helpful program.
Second Backup is free to try for 30 days. It installs desktop shortcuts without permission. While it had a rocky start, its excellent backup ability earns it our recommendation.

SecondBackup is an ease-to-use tool for backup your important files to compress or non-compress format. The compress backup can reduce the large file's backup times and save storage space. SecondBackup can automatic backup all types of files to external hard drive, USB disk, network or any other storage device at scheduling time, each file in the source will be compressed to ZIP format separately and be backed up to the destination, the incremental program can only backup the new or updated files. SecondBackup can produce multi-version, backup files at different times (such as Backup1 on Monday, Backup2 on Tuesday). SecondBackup also can perform original file (non-compress) backup and bi-directional folder sync tasks, the files in the destination folder are readable so that it is easy to check and make sure the backup files are ok. "A good backup Utility that does what it says"

SecondBackup can keep multi-version backed up files, this feature is just what I need.

This program is suitable to do external hard disk backup, it is ease to use, all skill levels user can use it, no need to train.
Cons
None that I have found yet.

This program not compressed the source files to a single file, the backed up files are readable, and it has a comparison function lets you easy to check if the backup is succeed.

If you have critical data in your computer, it is strongly recommended to make Multiple backups on different media, stored in different locations. If you already have a tape backup system, I suggest you do an additional backup to the external hard disk, Second Backup is a good tool for backup data to external hard disk.

If you already have a tape backup system, it may be necessary to do an additional backup to the external hard disk with this program, you will have the double data security, and it is easy to check the backed up files in the external hard disk.

You can chose what you want in your backup, either the whole drive, or just specific folders, or even everything of a particular filetype like all your photos, and it can archive multiple backup copied, zip each file t backup separately.

It is better if it has free edition.

"registration issues - do NOT give credit card info"

Cons
It locks up and says you must register. You click the link - register and pay for it with credit card, it sends you a receipt - but NO key or registration code. - no place to enter a reg. code even if they did send a code! seems like a Scam to me

Too much aggrevation for simple software - spent 2 hours trying to figure out how to get reg codes and unlock computer.
