Real helicopters aren't easy to fly, but this game doesn't make it much easier. Search and Rescue is all about Coast Guard realism, and focuses on saving virtual people's lives rather than on blazing chopper battles. Typical tasks might include saving a drowning swimmer and taking him aboard, and can involve flying long routes without any action on the way. We found a joystick is utterly essential--with mouse and keyboard, controlling the copter is a disaster. The helicopter is slow to respond, and commands must be precise, which is absolutely impossible to achieve without a joystick. There are no tutorials or instructions inside the game, although the game's folder contains a picture where the noncustomizable keyboard commands are shown. Graphics and sound are fairly primitive. Gamers who have joysticks and who want to try a bare-bones helicopter simulation might want to give the demo a whirl, but thrill-seekers might want to look elsewhere.Publisher's description
From Global Star Software :Search And Rescue 2 (SAR2) is a simulator where the player takes control of a Dolphin HH65 helicopter. You will fly as a pilot, assigned to an American Coast Guard base, and experience the thrills and excitement of day to day search and rescue missions. As you progress in skill and rank, you will be faced with more difficult missions, and hazardous rescue attempts. SAR2 will focus on realism in helicopter handling and general physics, as well as a realistic story line. There will be no combat scenes or scenes of meaningless violence and the primary goal and reward for you will be to save the lives of people in distress.
You will be able to play through a campaign scenario, with an unlimited number of randomly generated missions. Each of these missions will be part of your pilot's career history, and together they form a story flow, which will be recorded in your "Pilot's Log". You can also choose to fly a single mission. Here you can define the kind of mission you want to fly, by setting the mission generation parameters, thereby enabling you to test your skills in certain weather conditions or mission types before taking on the challenge of the campaign.

"Great Game.. But with lack of instructions"
Pros: sorry asdf for having problems installing this demo. I had no problems what so ever. The demo does not use too much memory or CPU from my 1.7 centrino 512 mb ram. OK...... back to the demo: It is very nice, and exciting, at least for me who did not bother hooking my j-stick and tried playing the game with a mouse. Graphics are allright, flying is fun once you get used to it, and the missions on the demo are allright. The best mission is the actual rescue mission, the other two are more like flying missions. I 100% recomend this demo.
Cons: HORRIBLE manuals - instructions. I could not find anywhere on the web that gives you a guide to this game. I will list some of the buttons so it might help some of you (I will make this guide available at the following web address: -- layth.bravehost.com/index.html -- :

** F11 : Auto pilot (not sure what that is for **
** C / X : turn right /turn left (they work mainly when your speed is low) **

** A: to fly higher ( this might actualy be the torque I use it all the time instead of using the T, I use the T only when I am taking off) **
** Z : to fly lower **
** G : gear up/down **
***** TO Take OFF :
Press E (wait for 10 seconds) -> Press R (wait for 10 seconds) -> press E again and you should see it running now. wait untill the engine is fully running. now press the T button at least 3 times... wait for couple of seconds, then press the A button to go higher (Keep pressing the A and Z buttons to get your asending rate somewhere around .5 to 1 up if you go faster you might encounter problems). You have taken off..retract your gear (press G)*****
** F2 : to open the side door {all the following will only work when door is open} **
** S : to get the swimmer out on the edge **
** F3: swimmer jumps into water **
** W: bring hoist down **
** S: bring hoist up **
** F5: Basket deployment **
** F6: Sling Deployment **
** F7: Litter deployment **
Well I hope you have fun and hope this will help you a bit, and not get you too frustrated with the lack of documentation with this demo.

"Not Bad.. Control are pretty much like LOCK ON and FLIGHT SIMULATOR"
Pros: Holds "Realism" in this game.. who doesnt love Realistic game?
Cons: Graphic r pretty sucks..

"Good Game -- controls arent that hard.."
Pros: I found an image in the program files directory of a keyboard with all of the controlls written on it so there are some controlls listed and i think they are pretty easy compared to the real thing. Fully customizabul and 3d
Cons: some more missions would be nice in the demo but you can customize them.

"very nice considering it is free"
Pros: very cool demo. easy to fly once you know the commands... it takes a little time to learn. once you get the hang of it... it is a pretty cool demo. fun to fly. nice options like weather,time of day, starting game in flight or on the launch pad. various views to choose from.
Cons: it takes some time to learn the controls.
