"Excellent Product _ Have used for over 2 years."

June 15, 2011  |  By Sbvmax

 |  Version: Sandboxie 3.54

Pros

Free version also available.
Very, very good for testing programs.

Great way to have 2 instances of Firefox running at the same time with different settings, absolutely love this feature.

Cons

US Dollar exchange rate sucks. Therefore to expensive for the paid version right now.
Might take a little bit to figure out, but when you do you will really like it. I'm still learning some of the more advanced stuff.

Summary

I've been using it for many years. The more I started using it and reading up on how to use it and with some trial and error, the more I used it.

It's a great way to test out Addons on Firefox. A lot of times I run my regular Firefox along with the Sandboxie installed Firefox one. Highly recommend you actually install Firefox or Opera... and __not just piggyback__ on your regular Firefox install. I create a separate folder on C: called SandBoxed_Program Files and install them in there.
With the Sandboxie Firefox you can turn off your NoScript and some other privacy ones if you want. Sometimes I leave them off and other times turn them back on depending on what I'm doing.

You can: Run multiple sandboxed programs simultaneously, each in it's own sandbox, BUT it does require a registered version of Sandboxie. Example I assume (don't own paid) is to have regular Firefox going and another Firefox Sandboxie install one and then with the paid also have another. All separate from each other. If use Tab Mix Plus's session manager can use all 3 for very different search sessions. ie.. PC research, 2nd one for the news and gossip and the 3rd could be for just business.
You can copy and paste the Profiles of each and move around accordingly if you wish. Or you can set the sandboxed Firefox one to use and update your profile, bookmarks... on the fly. I haven't used it this way yet, as I assume it would be a little less secure. But it's nice they offer it though.

I'd give it 4.8 stars total. I mean nothing should really have 5.0 because you can always improve.

Sandboxie Forum post I did, shows some of my notes using Sandboxie.

"So far so good"

May 28, 2011  |  By redwillie97

 |  Version: Sandboxie 3.54

Pros

Seems a lot lighter on resources than I thought possible. Seems to work pretty seamlessly.

Cons

Takes a while to get a handle on everything..

Summary

My biggest reservation, despite hearing only good things about this program, was the fear of conflicts, crashing and heavy resources. So far so good on all of these issues.
I have pretty good protection already..but wanted to try this out when simple surfing for clip art almost hooked me with that crazy security 2011 virus more than a few times. My malware/virus protection did work but it felt a little too close for comfort. What's crazy these days is that you can get infected doing the most common tasks of just surfing around...and if your other protection has a bad day..you can have this to feel a little safer. . I'll update after a month. But those short on resources ..don't worry about this program hogging them.

"More effective than any anti-virus"

April 15, 2011  |  By Syncytium

 |  Version: Sandboxie 3.54

Pros

Sandbox environment is convenient, documentation makes for easy learning curve, I have never seen or heard of any type of malware getting by it.

Cons

Icon and UI could be prettier, nag screen to upgrade (just reinstall to fix), there are some notable program incompatibilities listed on their site.

Summary

I still use an AV but it feels kind of pointless with this program running. I suppose you could acquire a keylogger and then compromise some logins before dumping the sandbox but that's really the only loophole I see. The paid version looks even better but its a bit on the expensive side for me (although far cheaper than paid AV suites).
