"SafeSpace Free is as unstable as a 3-leg Dining Table"

    March 11, 2011  |   By RevRickyBilly

    Version: SafeSpace Free Edition 2.0.41

    Pros

    Easy to follow installer

    Cons

Buggy installer, kept requesting C++ Distribution CD

    Summary

I use Windows 7 Home Premium and SafeSpace would not install. It kept looking for the C++ Distribution CD. I 'canceled' that operation and it seemingly installed, but after rebooting my PC, SafeSpace would not work.

If I was absolutely positive that it had nothing to do with my computer, I would rate SafeSpace a total zero. But I test a lot of software and in that, my system is possibly compromised, so I gave it 2-Stars. I cannot recommend SafeSpace. I will keep searching for a free alternative to Sandboxie®. If I can't find one that works, I'll have to spend the forty-nine dollars (US), required to purchase Sandboxie, which is irksome in itself because Sandboxie was a free program for a long time and then greed kicked in. I'd spend $10, maybe $15 to get Sandboxie, but not $49.

I would like to recommend SafeSpace Free Edition ... But I can't. It didn't install, therefore was of no value. Great idea, lousy execution.

    "Crashes like hell"

    July 31, 2009  |   By stephentsang2000

    Version: SafeSpace Free Edition 2.0.41

    Pros

It could serve as sandbox for game keygen or other stuff that are suspicious without having to spend money.

    Cons

Crashes with IE and Firefox add-ons. I have installed "Web Security Guard" and "Key Scrambler", but all of them ceased to function. In fact, I found "Web Security Guard" and "Key Scrambler" are quite enough for privacy protection.

    Summary

Anyway, it's free and you couldn't expect too much out of it. Suggest using a cocktail of different free security programs to protect different aspects of your computer.

    "This is an abandoned product"

    October 2, 2008  |   By SandboxLost

    Version: SafeSpace Free Edition 2.0.41

    Pros

Nice GUI for config. Automatically sandboxed an app (even when called as a child) which required paying for Sandboxie to get that feature.

    Cons

Just one sandbox. Sandboxie can have separate sandboxes. Conflicts with some firewalls, like Comodo's, which severely impacts performance (apps in the sandbox run a lot slower). Ran okay with just the Windows firewall (in WinXP Pro).

    Summary

This product has been abandoned. It was submitted to Cnet on May 12 and on July 1 the dev group was disbanded and the product absorbed by the parent company (who has no free version of their product and will not support this product). See http ://forums. artificialdynamics. co.uk /messages.aspx?TopicID=114 (remove the spaces, added to eliminate Cnet's worry about URLs; if Cnet destroys this URL, go to their general help forum and read the top announcement). This is the last version and will not be supported beyond asking other users in their forums for help. The download is larger, disk space consumption is larger, and memory consumption is larger than for Sandboxie (alas, Sandboxie degenerates into nagware after the 30-day trial, and I don't tolerate nagware just like I don't tolerate adware). Had to run browser in Normal (admin) privileges to save a download file rather than under reduced privileges. Getting harder to find a free sandboxer that is still supported, not overly crippled, and isn't nagware.

"Security is not entertainment genre; leave it to experts"

    June 7, 2008  |   By santuccie

    Version: SafeSpace Free Edition 2.0.41

    Pros

Free sandbox protection, no limitations. Automatic forced sandboxing. Protection against keyloggers running in sandbox. Easy to move files in and out of sandbox, just like with BufferZone. Nice look.

    Cons

Cannot sandbox folders, does not work with portable apps. Works okay with IE, but crashes Firefox incessantly. Rather unusual to see a system-level security program designed for .NET; this hints to inexperience on the part of the programmer, which would also explain the instability.

This is the fourth or fifth version of SafeSpace I have tried. A program of such modest size (esp. when made up mostly of precompiled code) should have had most of the bugs worked out by now; also, bells and whistles begin to look rather frothy when basic functionality such as folder security is missing.

The maker(s) of this program is obviously not a professional; I won't hold my breath until it matures.
