"Trial Disabled Entire Computer After Trial Expired"
Version: Safe Eyes 6.0.239
Pros
None. Worst product ever. I guess the Pros would be that the support staff is barely competent.
Cons
Once the Safe Eyes trial expired, it started blocking EVERY single website making the computer practically useless for internet purposes.
Support at Safe Eyes couldn't even figure out how to uninstall it after spending hours on the phone with them. They lost all information they had about our trial and wouldn't even let me send the email from them to ME showing my account information. Finally, support admitted they have no idea what they're doing.
The password didn't work, because Safe Eyes trashed my account information on their server which you have to log into to delete SafeEyes.
This was on a Mac w Snow Leopard. I even tried the following programs which are known to be able to delete locked programs:
Trashit
DropNuke
DropUnlock
AppCleaner
Terminal force delete commands don't work either.
None of them were able to get rid of Safe Eyes.
We're taking it to the local Mac Store and will likely have to pay $50 to get the software remove and leave the Mac in the shop for four days.Summary
SafeEyes appears to be some sort of ScareWare product that will destroy your computer if you don't upgrade from the trial to the paid version.
Suffice it to say that SafeEyes is easily the worst product I've ever bought for a Mac or PC. Horrible product from a horrible company with horrible, incompetent support staff. -
"Not compatible with itunes or Safari -"
Version: Safe Eyes 6.0.239
Pros
Initially it was slow but satisfactory.
Cons
This product is not compatible with itunes or Safari. No matter what the settings, it will not allow access to the itunes store or safari. It also obstructs other applications and makes your computer run slow. If you have the product and it is coming up for renewal, do not renew. Customer service does not know when the issue will be resolved and it will not be until Spring of 2012 that other issues are resolved.
Summary
Do not purchase it for have apple products.

"Om nom nom."
Version: Safe Eyes 6.0.239
Pros
first of all, the whole things were free. It's the same as any other web filter progs, it stop ya kid from viewing any absurd, unhealthy sites.
Cons
Inability to recustomize filters by the user's free will. Hard to understand the blocking algorithm. Never mind that, it's ****ing freeware after all.
Summary
If you're poor enough to buy any better progs, or not too clever to find the cracked version of them, this prog is right here for ya.

"Slows internet, over-protective, unwanted advertising.."
Version: Safe Eyes 6.0.239
Pros
It blocks pornographic sites.
Easy to install.Cons
It blocks almost ALL image searches, including searches that aren't even remotely harmful; (i.e. animal pictures)
It immediately tries to sell you add-on McAfee virus protection;
Internet speed was noticeably slow;
Very difficult to uninstall;Summary
After installing, I was immediately disappointed. My internet speed was greatly slowed (I have a fiber optic connection) to the point that my wife was frustrated with the newly decreased speed.
Next, the pop-up advertisements for McAfee virus protection began. Little did I know prior to purchasing this that SafeEyes is owned by McAfee. This kind of rogue advertising is a nuisance.
Finally, I quickly noticed that even on the lowest filter settings, it blocks nearly EVERY image search I performed, including searches for "sharks" and other school-related material that isn't even remotely dangerous or pornographic. This software is too overly protective when it comes to internet searches. It blocked 9 out of 10 "innocent" searches that I tried --- not good if you have to do a lot of internet-related research!
Finally, when I decided to uninstall it, it told me to go to a particular website and open a "trouble report" or else my account would remain active and I would continue to get billed automatically at a whopping $50/year. I followed the directions and went to the website, but found NOTHING that showed how to open a "trouble report". McAfee is very helpful at helping you to load this software onto your computer, but don't you dare expect them to help you uninstall it or cancel their service. A search on their own website for "trouble report" returned nothing.
Thanks but no thanks, McAfee. I wish I had my $50 back, but of course I waited to unsubscribe just long enough that the 30 day guarantee is void.
In summary, this is everything I did NOT want in an internet filter and more. Thank you very little, McAfee. -
"Great internet filter!"
Version: Safe Eyes 6.0.239
Pros
Protect your children from harmful internet content. We've been using this filter for 4 years and it is very good, user-friendly and affordable. Get a free trial here! http://isafety.tellapal.com/a/clk/6QxGd
Cons
$50 a year.
Summary
I highly recommend SafeEye for your home. Protect your children from harmful internet content. We've been using this filter for 4 years and it is very good, user-friendly and affordable. It is very good at blocking all inappropriate material, so you never accidentally stumble upon something you don't want to see.
Everyone in the family has a password so you can set up time limits for each person. You can also block different kinds of websites for each person. It will tell you if children post personal information, or inappropriate posts.
For the adults, you can disable safe eyes if you are having troubles accessing a certain website. Also, you can have reports emailed to see what each person has been looking at. I know that no filter is perfect, but I do really like. I hope you find this helpful!

"Difficult to use, did not perform, hard to get rid of."
Version: Safe Eyes 6.0.239
Pros
The features are nice, especially the customizable time limits.
Cons
Failed to send email reports of surfing. Cumbersome--demands user name and pw every time any user wants to get on the PC. Often blocks user no matter what the status of user is. We decided not to renew, but then uninstallingwas nightmarish.
Summary
For $50 a year I don't want to have to be babysat by customer support, don't want an overly aggressive system that intrudes into every computer decision, and doesn't perform some of the critical functions it is supposed to perform. This hoped-for management system for our family turned into a hassle that didn't even work much of the time. And--be warned--was very tough to uninstall.

"Okay, but with some issues"
Version: Safe Eyes 6.0.239
Pros
Easy to set up
Customizable filters
Support for multiple users
Simple log-in screen
Convenient email log reportsCons
Unreliable YouTube filter still allows a lot of filth to come through.
Frequent inappropriate categorization of websites meaning you may suddenly get blocked from websites that are perfectly acceptable.Summary
In a nutshell this is a decent piece of software but it will not make up for the simple presence of a responsible adult.
It does include a lot of great features and offers parents a bit of peace about what their kids are or are not doing online. The emailed reports about usage and the support for multiple users are particularly good selling points.
However, I have found that it does have some minor technical glitches that have given us headaches, primarily in not getting along well with other software. And the filtering is not dependable - vulgar YouTube videos disguised as kids' cartoons will get through, while children's websites may be labeled as adult gaming websites, and religious websites labeled as hate speech. We have had to keep the filter essentially turned off when adults want to use the internet, and even occasionally for the kids, which kind of defeats the purpose of installing it.
With a great deal of customization, and staying on top of the settings, this is a good piece of software. But for a while, do expect to be frustrated with it quite often.
