Safari Cookies 1.8 for Mac User Reviews

"Works well once understood, and it is really quite easy"
Version: Safari Cookies 1.7.2
Pros
This is a very useful & necessary program, as Apple has neglected, for some odd reason, not to include any automatic cookie handling after years of developing Safari, despite the growing privacy menace.
Cons
Instructions virtually nonexistent; confusing. See my brief instructions below.
Summary
So here is the deal: This is an auto cookie remover. You can have it remove all cookies except those associated with sites from your Bookmarks, Topsites, etc. OR you can specify domains to save cookies for individually (my choice). But you may never figure out how by reading the meager info on the SC site. Once installed, SC shows up in Safari Prefs. For best security I set SC Prefs to "Accept cookies only from sites I visit"; check Auto manage; check "Remove all Google Analytics"; check "Treat all Extensions as Favorites". Now, visit all the sites you want to keep cookies for (Say, Netflix, Facebook). Then go to Cookies pane and check the domains you WANT TO KEEP. Got that? Okay, now do the same for Flash cookies & Databases. I personally don't want to save any of this nonsense, but if you do, check the ones YOU WANT TO KEEP. Now when you quit Safari, all cookies (including those nasty flash cookies) will be deleted, save the ones you checked.

Version: Safari Cookies 1.7.2

"It DOES work!!!"
Version: Safari Cookies 1.6.4
Pros
It does precisely what it claims to do, and, after working out several issue with its responsive developer, I have not had any with the current version.
Cons
SIMBL!!!!!
Summary
It easily enables me to keep track of who/what is d/l'ing garbage onto my deuced Mac(hina) and to clear it.
It would be nice if it could work without SIMBL, but that's not a deal-breaker. -
"Degenerating into crapware"
Version: Safari Cookies 1.6.4
Pros
Used to work! Great idea!
Cons
Is now unreliable, buggy, a PITA and their tech support don't care.
Summary
There have been moments when I have very much enjoyed this add-on for Safari. But lately and frequently Safari Cookies is an incredible PITA and a total let down. Here are some examples:
- I remove all my non-favorite cookies and close Preferences. I go back to Preferences and ALL the cookies I just deleted are THERE AGAIN! Over and over. I finally figured out how to out-think this bug and killed off the cookies anyway. What a PITA.
- This week's bug is multi-tasking: Safari Cookies has NO IDEA what version it is in its about box. It says "Current Version: 0.0.0 (dnl). Brilliant. It also shows that I have NO cookies when Indeed I do! It shows no Flash Cookies when indeed I do! It shows I have no databases when indeed I do!. So I used its uninstaller. Then I reinstalled it. Now it shows me my databases. Great. But no cookies and no Flash cookies and NO VERSION NUMBER.
I'm going to attempt to go backwards a few versions to see if I can restore what actually once worked. But versions 1.6.4 and 1.6.5 are, from my experience, GARBAGE. I should be championing the add-on as the best thing to happen to Safari tracking security! Instead I'm watching it degenerate into crapware. What a shame. And yes, I wrote their tech support. They don't care and never replied. Get the idea? -
