It is much easier to learn and get moving quicker than Flash. If you dont want to learn flash it is a great alternative.
Cons
Not as reliable as Macromedia and if you only want to make flash style text and menus you can get free or cheaper software...

I've worked with it for many years ! It has good effects and could change the final size via resolution of the images directly.

It has many effects and no preview for it. You had to choose some effects from nearly 100 !!
