"free, functional, but sometimes cuts farts"

1) it finds outdated software and gives website links to obtain updates
2) has option to report errors to sumo, which are responded to very quickly (all of mine within 24 hours)
3) gives some interesting data on the versions of software that exist and how many sumo users have each version
4) small, fast program

1) sumo gives approx. 5% false positives for software that does not need updating -- but they fix most of these within 24 hours
2) when downloading sumo there are numerous default traps that will download and install toolbars, browsers, other programs (junkware)
3) sumo seems to have weekly updates, with another possibility of accidentally downloading junkware if not carefulSummary

2) exercise careful attention during the process of downloading (use the No RK version) and installing sumo to avoid the extra junkware. -
"Update installs Babylon even if you untick option"

Pros
I found it a useful tool to check all my software in one go for updates, although it occasionally shows updates when none are available yet. I didn't use its 'Get updates' feature, I would go straight to the software or the publisher's site and update from there.
Cons
Sumo iself has frequent updates, when you have to extremely carefully select custom install and untick lots of baggage that comes with it. Then today I got Babylon Search and toolbar which reset my home page. This was in spite of me deselecting it during the install. In fact in a year of use it is the second time Sumo has left me with unwanted software. Last time the developer was quite apologetic, this time he is not getting a second chance.
Summary
Babylon is a b@$t@rd to completely remove. If it happens to you, search your registry afterwards for babylon and search.babylon, and delete them. Much as I liked using Sumo, any tool that allows that happen to its users has got no place on my computer, it is uninstalled now for ever.

Pros
It's the most comprehensive updater I've tried, heads above the rest.
Cons
Comes with a lot of other stuff you probably won't want - just be extra careful to untick the boxes during the download.
Summary
Actually this does not appear to be the latest version, for after opening it an Update box appears - make sure to select the dowload with RK with a bar through it in a red circle, this is an alternate version with RK optional component not included.
Why oh why oh why does it update so frequently??? Call me a cynic if you will, but I am sure they do this for no other reason than they hope you will unintentionally download, by overlooking to untick, one of the other bits of software that are offered with the download.

"The best I have tried."

Pros
It gives me the list of all the software I have in my PC (I have windows 7 64bit) and checks for updates in no time when I request.,
Cons
Some updates are hard to find, though. I have the feeling that it knows the updates before any other site does.
Summary
I hope that I'll be able to have this software available for a long time; it makes me feel that my PC is safe.

It finds out of date drivers, but it's a turkey shoot to find the updates.

The author of the wrote it for himself. He shared it with anybody who wants to use it as freeware. That means you can make improvements to it as you like.
