    "This is an excellent browser."

    January 13, 2010  |   By marathong

    Pros

    I love it's simplicity

    Cons

    None at all

    Summary

I like the no frills yet it is very powerful. I like to team up browsers with search engines. Right now I have paired SR Iron with Cuil - It keeps me amused

The point is not whether this is an entirely unique browser. Few are! Firefox came from Mozilla came from Netscape. Many other browsers are also based in large part on Mozilla or Netscape code. In this case it forks from the Chromium code, but it should be judged on how it stands from a user perspective, regardless of its origin. In this case, it adds some VERY desirable privacy features and deserves to be rated near the same as or better than Chrome. Did they do most of the work in creating the browser? No. Do I care? No. They provided the Chrome-like performance and simple, uncluttered UI (great for small netbook screens, BTW) and greatly improved privacy issues. I like Google, but am concerned about the information collected from me with the Chrome browse and how it will be used. The fact that Iron is derived from the Chrome code base assures me that it is based on a solid, state of the art engine, while alleviating privacy concerns.
