"Not as Good as Google Chrome-"

May 23, 2010  |  By andreaborman

 |  Version: SRWare Iron 2.0.178

Pros

Iron browser looked and functioned exactly the same as Google Chrome but I was very disapointed in the lack of choices regarding customisation of the browser.

Cons

Unfortunently you cannot add any of the Google Chrome themese to this browser as you can with Google Chrome,Chronium and Comodo dragon. Nor can you add any other extensions used in Chrome here.

Summary

The browser worked as good as G. Chrome but you can not add any of the Chrome extensions to Iron browser as this browser does not support this. So you cant add Google Chrome themes or extensions such as the Google mail checker to this browser. And Iron did not have any themes of it's own so you cannot change the appearence of the browser. It did however work as good as Chrome but I was very disapointed in the lack of choices in customisation of this browser. Get Chronium C,omodo dragon instead.

Updated on Jun 18, 2010

update- I recently reviewed Iron Browser about a month ago and I only gave it a 3 star rating because, then you could not add the Google Chrome extensions or features that you could with Google Chrome. But that was in the previous version of Iron. But this year in April 2010, Iron have now brought out the latest version which is Iron browser 5.0.380. In this new and latest version you CAN now use all of the Google chrome themes and extensions to this browser,as you can in Chromiun and Comodo Dragon. In fact Iron browser is made from the same makers that make Chronium. The previous version of Iron was fast like Chronium, but I did not like the fact that you could not change the browser theme and that thegoogle Chrome extensions were then, not compatible with Iron. But now with this latest version, you can use ALL of the Google Chrome themes and extensions and I have now done this. The only thing is that it copies the theme you have on your Chronium browser, but that is just a small flaw.

"Old product listed here - v4.x is amazing!"

April 13, 2010  |  By digital_raven

 |  Version: SRWare Iron 2.0.178

Pros

All the goodness of chromium/chrome without the build or privacy issues. Everything just works the same... extensions, themes, features. Love It! Cleaner interface than any other browser.

Cons

Has a higher memory footprint due to the sandboxing... not pleasant if you have limited memory. If you have memory to spare though you should take this out for a ride. Not as customizable as Opera or Firefox - even with the extensions.

Summary

Go get the latest version... drop Chrome... regain your privacy... and enjoy speed that is as fast as the Opera web browser - but with a cleaner interface. Supports internet standards and HTML 5 too. Can play quake 2 in the web browser. Long live the browser wars!

"Better than Chrome"

March 14, 2010  |  By Draigous

 |  Version: SRWare Iron 2.0.178

Pros

No spying on you period.

Cons

none so far.

Summary

People may think that its a chrome ripoff, but i don't think so. Its fast and does what i need it to do. I do not like how Google collects info on you. I don't use Google products at all anymore. This has to be one of the best little known browser out there. Its already my default browser. It also has many extensions to try out too. If you use Chrome or thinking about it,you should try this first.

"Has Potential but not there yet"

September 12, 2009  |  By mikeynavy1

 |  Version: SRWare Iron 2.0.178

Pros

Fast just like Chrome. Same interface. Helps with privacy paranoia over Chrome (although I didn't find any Client ID lines in the last couple versions of Chrome...including the beta/dev versions).

Cons

Some Flash content doesn't work (i.e. ESPN 360). A little skeptical if this version will accept future extensions.

Summary

The browser is alright. Like Chrome, it is nice and fast, and posts a killer benchmark in Peacemaker (and almost gives a perfect score on Acid3). I'd rather stick with Google's product, however, as SRWare isn't in America and I'm not sure how else they changed the Chromium code. I'd love it if they could add some user changeable interfaces like moving things around at the top (i.e. move "other bookmarks" to left side) and making it simple to install extensions. Also, the privacy advantage may be null and void now. I didn't find any mention of the client ID in versions 3 and 4 of Chrome, so I'm not sure if they removed them or not. Someone more experienced may reply.

"speedy, sleek, secure, simple, stable, and streamlined."

August 06, 2009  |  By O_Blogger

 |  Version: SRWare Iron 2.0.178

Pros

Speedy, sleek, secure, simple, stable, & streamlined. No problems opening things. With FF & IE, some videos wouldn't work, some slowdowns, crashes. No probs w/ Iron. Iron is under the radar, thus less likely to have security issues. NO GOOGLE SPIES.

Cons

speedy, sleek, secure, simple, stable, and streamlined may come at a price: sparse. No bells and whistle apps or bloatware. If you are looking for a BROWSER, Iron is it. If you need more "stuff", stick with FF.

Summary

After trying almost every browser available, I've decided to use Iron as my default BROWSER of choice and could not be happier. Try it if you want a simple, stable BROWSER.

"It's Google Chrome with an ADBLOCKER !!!"

July 30, 2009  |  By Jack-Bxp

 |  Version: SRWare Iron 2.0.178

Pros

SRWare Iron browser is basically google chrome, other than the icon and the options menu it looks identical and loads web pages very fast. It has an adblocker built in, but i had to manually add the block list myself, see my summary for instructions.

Cons

Having to add the adblocking list manually might put you off - but it shouldn't. I can't vouch for the security of this browser - but if you have a good anti virus, why worry.

Summary

First of all, i like this browser. It's fast startup time - 4 seconds i counted - and fast page loading is identical to google chrome. Currently firefox, since updating to 3.5+ and also before this, seems to be crawling for me. I like the simplicity of the Iron/chrome browser, with the tabs at the top of the page and the iconized menu buttons, it's tidy and helps focus on the page viewed, instead of the actual browser. The main benefit of Iron, over google chrome is of course the privacy tweaks that define it's existence, plus an adblocker - that when manually enabled, works just like adblock plus on firefox (i see nothing annoying on this page). To make the Iron browser adblocker work, you must first find the adblock list - on the SRWare Iron website. You then copy the list and paste it into the adblock.ini file which is located in Program files / SRWare Iron. Then save it. It's that simple. I think every so often you may have to repeat this, i don't think it updates the adblocker for now. It is worth doing this though, if you have adblock plus on firefox, you will know why. At the moment, just like the stable version of google chrome, there are no significant add ons for Iron browser. I am a long term Firefox user and i like my add ons. I found Iron browser very easy to work with, because of it's speed and minimalist look and once the adblocker was working, let's say i could get used to it. I recommend trying it. You need to enable the phishing and malware protection option manually too, if you want this, it's in the options menu (click on the wrench button). I've rated SRWare Iron 4 stars - for serious potential, i think privacy is a serious issue with google chrome - and with Iron, you get to use chrome, but without these issues and without adverts flashing in your face. I currently rate Firefox 3 stars - even though it's still my default browser - progress is meant to improve things, not slow them down.
