Version: SRS Audio Sandbox 1.9.0.4
"Great for boosting crappy internal speakers"
Pros: *Makes small, crappy speakers usable (like laptop speakers)
*Works globally on all sounds without media playerCons: *Doesn't work on USB enhancers like Creative X-mod.
Summary: I couldn't get this to play nice with Windows 7 in order to try it out on my big speakers but when I tried it on XP with my laptop speakers it was amazing. I couldn't believe my little piece of crap built in speakers could sound like real desktop speakers. I watched TV with it for a couple of hours and I actually had to keep checking that the sound was really coming from the laptop.
*No options to balance out loud/quiet sounds for night-time movie watching -- like AC3 filter DRC.
*Couldn't get Win 7 to play nice with it but I was using version 1.7
I couldn't get it to work on my external speakers though, neither through the sound card jack nor the usb x-mod connection I use. I think its due to the SRS being set up as a separate driver.
My usb Creative X-Mod has firmware drivers of it's own and SRS just can't be mapped through it; and I AIN'T givin' up my X-mod!
When I tried the external speakers through the built in sound card the SRS just wouldn't play in my media player. I could hear system sounds in Windows but the media player played nothing when the SRS was selected as the output plugin. The volume also would not change on the SRS when the Soundcard driver was selected as the output plugin. In addition, my volume was cranked and the systems sounds I heard were very quiet.
Oh well, I geuss I'll keep it around to fire up when all I have is my laptop speakers, see if I can get it to be buddies with Win 7.
