    "Needs Version 10"

    December 27, 2011  |   By Zeck

    Version: SOHO Notes 9.2.1

    Pros

Nice interface and his video note capability.

    Cons

Still touts sync via MobileMe...MobileMe is no longer available.

    Summary

It's a good looking PIM but technology has passed it by. With all my notes in TreeDB, I'm afraid that it's not worth the $40 to start all over, especially for a year old version that doesn't appear to be moving forward. I'll have to use Parallels and stick with my Windows PIM.

    Updated on Dec 27, 2011

I stand corrected. There IS now support for iCloud calendars (and contacts, I think). But, with Microsoft Exchange, I don't need to sync any other calendars or contacts. I need to sync NOTES. This IS called SOHO Notes, right? Or, at least, have one sync folder to drag and drop notes into permanent folders on other machines...

"Difficult to upgrade, horrible tech support"

    November 22, 2011  |   By brooksiefan

    Version: SOHO Notes 9.2.0

    Pros

I have a whole lot of notes on this thing. That's why I upgraded. The one advantage I can think of is syncing with iPhone.

    Cons

Where to begin? Difficult to install--if you follow the instructions you end up in a loop of "incompatible with OS version" and "Can't install because chAPPkit is active." And there is absolutely NO ONE to talk to. You have to file a trouble ticket and wait a few weeks for Chronos to get back to you--usually with a "read the instructions" suggestion. Clue phone for tech support--I DID follow the instructions, and that's how I got in this mess.

    Summary

Don't buy if you can avoid it. The next Chronos product I will buy is something that will export the database to some usable app like Notes or Reminders.

    "Extremely useful scrapbook application"

    November 18, 2011  |

    Version: SOHO Notes 9.2.0

    Pros

Easily keep track of all types of information: notes, passwords, serial numbers, and so on.

    Cons

Wish the company had an online forum. Wish you could specify a "master" password to unencrypt all notes, instead of having of unencrypt each note separately.

    Summary

Solidly-performing scrapbook application that is regularly updated. Syncs with a companion iPad app.

"Don't buy - if you have version 6 or 7, stick with them"

    August 14, 2011  |   By fersken--2008

    Version: SOHO Notes 9.1.5

    Pros

One of the best organizers out there, but only because no real alternatives.

    Cons

Tries to much, and therefore mostly fails.

    Summary

I use Soho Notes to organize article clippings, and there is around 6.500 of them in the database right now. I also use it to organize contacts.

I updated from version 7 to the new version 9. And I just downgraded again. If you have the old seven, down update. And even better, if you have the old version 6, it was so far the best, so stick with it.

Here's the reasons why I do not recommend Soho Notes 9:

    - Search is slower than in SH 7.

    - Scrolling through notes, if there's a lot of them, is uneven and it often hangs.

    - The beach ball is constantly running. Even with small searches within tens of notes.

    - It often crashes.

    - Files and notes can only be in one folder and not shared in several. A huge limitation that for some reason was introduced in version 8.

    - You can't make a combined search within two tags. Unless the programme has decided they are "related tags." Major limitation and why organizing it through folders is much better.

    - When you open a note, the size of it is set in a default size that you can't decide yourself. (Unfortunately the same with all versions.) And when you open the sidebar to a note it eats half the size. Most often you would open it to quickly see or edit the tag of the note. It was done better in version 6.0, which was probably the best of the previous versions.

    - Conclusion - i wish i hadnt installed version 7 and therefore altered my database, so i could not go back to version 6. However, 7 is ok, but I do not recommend any other versions.

If you have any of these versions, there is no reason to buy the new 9.0. In fact, the drawbacks are so big that I would not recommend it.

    Pros

A great application, which does everything it says it can - great for storage. One click in safari, and the web page is stored. Great sync with ipod touch.

    Cons

Needs to have a little something that works on Android

    "cnet screwed me up!"

    February 9, 2011  |   By marijane--2008

    Version: SOHO Notes 9.0.1

    Pros

There are NO pros... I can't use my SOHO notes at all!

    Cons

After following all the directions and deleting my former system, I have nothing! The app. won't load! I got the message "this is not supposed to happen"... DUH! I'm waiting for chronos to help me fix it!

    Summary

Also, on the promo that I responded to there was no mention of cost but on this page, I see that there is! I am going to attempt to dump 9.0.1 and reinstall my 8.09

"Version 8 is Soho Notes reincarnated."

    October 6, 2010  |   By ctshop

    Version: SOHO Notes 8.37

    Pros

The support replied to ALL my questions in reasonable time.

The Mac app sync well with iPhone app.

All reported bugs are fixed! Both the Mac and iPhone App.

This is the MOST feature rich Notes Taking software in the Mac.

    I used it everyday.

    Cons

There should be a cloud sync solution between iPhone and the Mac app.

    "Constant Crashes and hangs"

    September 15, 2010  |   By nout72

    Version: SOHO Notes 8.37

    Pros

It looks good and it's feature rich. I especially like the DockNote, which lets you drag and drop content on.

    Cons

The biggest let down is that I am simply not able to use it for a longer period than say half an hour before it hangs for ever and you have to 'force quit' it.
Just opening the preferences and make a little adjustment makes the programm hang or crash

    Summary

I gave up after a day trying, fed up with hangs and crashes, that's just not acceptable.

You can get the lovely EverNote for free, which lets you do almost the same stuff.
$49, 10 US dollar more than Soho Notes can get you the in every way superior DevonThink.

"Comprehensive management of 'all that other stuff'"

    August 27, 2010  |   By Neil Wallace--2008

    Version: SOHO Notes 8.36

    Pros

A great central resource for all the stuff that you would normally file and subsequently lose.

    Cons

Occasional flakey database syncing across multiple devices can cause duplicate entries and data loss. A real pain.

"do not buy... HORRIBLE software. it WILL fail you."

    May 24, 2010  |   By daniel-nyc

    Version: SOHO Notes 8.32

    Pros

look, soho has all the potential in the world... when it's working, it's amazing, but given the nature of apps like soho, users keep their whole lives on their software. their database crashed, and now years of notes are gone... forever.

    Cons

again, the support is SHOCKINGLY bad. i had a class 5 emergency, and it took them literally 3 weeks to reply, and even when they did, i got no answer. the updates are meaningless and expensive, and most importantly THEIR DATABASE CRASHES ALL THE TIME

    Summary

do NOT buy this software. the bottom line is that you'll download it, and (if you even get the mess to install) you'll be lulled into a false sense of security. their database is horrible. you WILL lose your data. it WILL happen. i updated and backed up all the time, and yet here i am with 3 years of notes gone forever. the support is horrible. in short, someone needs to flush this abortion of a company before they ruin any more people's lives.
