"Works Well... Has a handy Screen Capture option"
Version: SMPlayer 0.8.3
Pros
Installs well. Runs OK. Has a really nifty screen capture option that allows you to capture a series of images, like stop motion photography... then you can pick the image that you like best. No more trying to kit the key strokes at just the precise moment. Very good for a series of action shots! (So if you are analyzing sport action for example, this is an ideal feature.)
Cons
The transitions between scenes can be sloppy. This may only be a glitch in my system, while viewing commercial DVD (movies). Not sure, but it was enough to make me look for another player. I still use it occasionally though.
Summary
I'm running MSW Vista Biz-64 on an AMD 4-core CPU w/ 8GB RAM. This player works great... and I LOVE the feature for capturing a series of images from video. For DVD movies though, the sloppy transitions to the next "title" are a buzz-kill.

"Wow this is a beauty"

Pros
Packed with features and functions
Totally and easily customizable in every way (it seems)
Decent quality
All you need reallyCons
None - Except it didn't perform so well with my lesser quality files
Summary
If you are a die hard VLC VideoLAN user but always open to a good opportunity then this may well put your VLC on the back burner.
Quite frankly ... This Rocks! -
"Amazing player!"
Version: SMPlayer 0.8.2
Pros
Plays all formats. It can download youtube videos. Very easy to use. No codecs needed. Great quality of image and sound. Better than VLC.
Cons
None so far.
Summary
This is one of the best video players I used. It plays every format I tested, wonderful performance on HD videos. It's possible to customize the look, changing the skin and icons.
It's even possible to play youtube videos. It includes a tool to search for youtube videos, it even allows to download them!
Excelent support for subtitles. You can change the color, font and size very easily. It can even search for subtitles for you.
The possibility to resume a movie is amazing.
It also allows to create a menu with your favorite movies. It can play internet streams, dvds, iso images...
Totally professional player, yet completely free.
Highly recommended. -
"Only needed it for MKV playback"
Version: SMPlayer 0.8.2
Pros
Love the FF and Rew controls (+/- 10 seconds)
Smooth playbackCons
I haven't tried it with audio, but I'm going to use it in place of VLC for a while. I have high hopes.
Not the prettiest interface.Summary
I tried about 5 other MKV compatible players and this was the one I really liked. DIVX player would have been my favorite in terms of user interface, but it kept crashing, so....
I would give it 5 stars, but I've only used it for the one thing, so I don't know that it's great at everything else. -

"Used to use VLC - no longer, as SMPlayer is great!"
Version: SMPlayer 0.6.9
Pros
- Loads quickly, runs smoothly, doesn't crash
- Skinnable interface with some very attractive options
- Great support for subtitlesCons
- Loads either single files or directories or playlists, no 'multiple file select' with control-click
Summary
Having used VLC for quite some time, I was a bit skeptical, but after using it a few times I can say it runs stably and plays everything I throw at it. I don't understand some of the comments here. Love the double-click for fullscreen, as well as the compact mode is very compact. Lots of flexibility.

"Somoto Toolbar and Changes your browser homepage"
Version: SMPlayer 0.6.9
Pros
Program seems to work well.
Cons
Very annoying, close to spyware. Installs something called Somoto toolbar and changes your browser homepage to Bing.

"Yes, I like it. Like it a whole lot"
Version: SMPlayer 0.6.9
Pros
It works. No screwing around, load it and it works. I haven't tried a clip that it hasm't run perfectly no matter what the format.
Cons
It takes a while to load, I used to have a Commodore 64, now that was some slow loading. Get a cup of coffee, it's worth the wait.
Summary
It does what it says it will do, what more can a person ask for? Now a thanks to Cnet. Almost every program of a technical nature on my computer has come from cnet, my browser, my photo software, my virus protection and more, all have come from cnet. Thanks folks, you do a great job.

"Outstanding"
Version: SMPlayer 0.6.9
Pros
An excellent video player with most of the best features we require to view quality videos and movies. The hot-key controlled contrast, brightness and gamma adjustments of video are fine.
Cons
nothing so far, except that its UI is an old type which require some good skins.
Summary
A stable and dependable video player(for win-xp-sp3) with many features that we can't get in others. One of the rare features is that if you quit the player in the middle of playing a video and close the pc and after sometime when you restart the player,it will start from where you stopped.
