"Tramples on all the others, great!"

by MikePike on March 7, 2005

Pros: First of all, this is THE BEST program if you want to convert WAV files to any kind of compressed audio file (mp1, mp2, mp3, whatever) and it is way easier, quicker, less hasseling, and FREE compared to the other many $9 or more programs that imply that they can "do-it-all".

It actually works compared to the many trial versions of other costly programs.

It's a music player (not the best, but does the job) for your computer.

It doesn't use the registry, so it is a simple program.

It can convert WAV to MP3 (the sole reason I downloaded it) and some other things to, but I didn't really use them.

Simple settings, yet allowing for great control for converting.

Even though the program tells you in the settings that conversions are slow, I converted six 20 second files in under 30 seconds and after finishing this review, I'll start converting my many songs and other pesky WAV tracks.

It is small in size and my Norton AntiVirus, AdAware, and SpyBot Search and Destroy say is OK.

    Great!

Cons: The user interface could be a little bigger and clearer, but... what am I saying, who cares, it's great!

    "Power in a small size"

    on June 14, 2007

Pros: Of course Winamp's library feature is more useful but I remember using this on my old 486 that could barely run Win 98... and this was the only MP3 player that I could run with my 8MB of RAM. Still an amazing program.

Cons: It's a pity this program hasn't been updated. ID3 Tag support is limited to v1 and it would be nice to be able to re-encode MP3s.. or use other codecs.

"It is a REAL MP3 encoder FOR FREE"

    by AKindler90 on May 26, 2007

Pros: A word of caution: If you are not comfortable with using files and folders, and are not willing to learn how elsewhere, then this application is not for you. Get help from your teenagers instead (assuming you have not ticked them off for good).

    Installation instructions:

+ Expand the zip into a separate EMPTY folder.

+ (Optional) Create a shortcut for this .exe file, and place it where you normally run programs.

You can actually run this program from the folder directly. The shortcut is only for your convenience. And, by the way, don't believe those reviewers that say that this does not take space in their disk. You MUST have your .wav, your .mp3, and these files somewhere, geezzz! What they really mean is that you do not have to install it, but simply expand the files and double-click your executable. But trust me, you have to put them somewhere!

When invoked (or launched, depending on your age), it will run a very small window (one can't help but wonder what kind of third-world trash PC was used for its development. All the more kudos for this software developer!)

Press the Convert button, and it will walk you into selecting your WAV file(s), and then the destination folder for your MP3. Only used the single file conversion. If you know where you put your files, it will be there. You can use 320000 if you want the highest faithfulness but the largest file size (MP3 encoding IS a lossy process. Just a reminder).

Last, but not least, the quality is great in its highest setting! I compared it with the PRO encoder in Nero and could not hear the difference. Awesome! And FREE!

My antivirus and antispyware likewise passed this software with full colors.

This guy chose to not leave contact info, but I would gladly give him the $9 or $19 that other products ask me up front.

Cons: It just converts your .WAV file into .MP3 or .MP2 or .MP1, but it will not fill out the ID3 Tags in this file.

You can easily solve this problem by installing Winamp, adding your .MP3 file, and add the tags manually, frequently by simply copy and paste from its file name.

BTW, Winamp is my favorite MP3 player/organizer, specially when left in its classic skin. Probably your favorite MP3 player software allows ID3 tag editing as well. But that is besides the point.

    "Really simple, really good"

by thislevelisclouds on February 22, 2005

Pros: I've used this program for years to convert wavs to mp3s (and vice versa) with very few problems.

Cons: The only bug I've found (in the version I have) is that if you change the filename for the one you're about to convert, it messes up. That's it though.
