Ryijy Stitch Designer is a simple program for converting an image to rya rug or cross stitch pattern. Image colors can be converted to DMC floss colors, small RGB color palette, or to a custom color palette. Custom palette may be a subset of DMC colors or it can be hand picked from colors in images. This way program is also suitable for other hobby purposes such as mosaic or beadwork. Program supports cropping and resizing the image and adjusting contrast and saturation before color conversion and color reduction. Color reduction uses smart algorithm to select optimal colors using as few colors as possible. Manual color reduction by hand is also supported as well as replacing or painting individual colors directly to image. Copy&Paste feature makes editing images in an external editor easy. Final image can be printed to multiple pages with grids, annotations and color keys. Designs can be saved or shared with others through own file format, which preserves color palette information with image.

no intentional editing. Must use program algorithm to edit. cropping is done by guesswork. color changes don't seem apparent, but I didn't change orange to purple so I can't be sure. cannot make your own patterns in the program without another graphic editor which makes it useless.
Summary
not worth the download unless you are ONLY setting patterns for pictures and want to guess how to use the program.

If you wish to create a cross stitch plan from any reasonable picture, then this is the tool to use. The improved printing options make this program so easy to use to get what you want.
The size of the printout can be altered to increase/decrease the symbol size from the standard 10 symbols per inch - perfect for those who want clearer symbols. Multi-page printouts are easy, including optional short symbol keys on each page or a single long symbol key on a separate page.
This program caters for complete crosses only, and no backstitch. These are entirely reasonable ommissions, as it's impossible to see how this information could be obtained from a small picture.
The colour selection routines are accurate and editable so that if DMC change their range, no change is required to the program code. Very, very clever.
Definitely the program you need.
