    "Apple could learn a lesson...."

    June 7, 2006  |   By Mayhem!

    Version: Rumpus 5.0

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This is an FTP server, perfectly done. Maxum has added all the features and administration capabilities you could want in a way that is Mac-like. More importantly, it's stable and works as expected. 5.0 was a great surprise in the fact that my registration which almost a year old works! I appreciate their upgrade policy of taking care of "somewhat recent" purchases being given the latest update. Updating some of the components like the daemon could not have been trivial. Keep up the amazing work and I'm glad to see you continuing to support Rumpus on the Intel changeout!

    "better than Crush!"

    November 12, 2003  |   By hercules

    Version: Rumpus 3.3.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Crush always had more features and costs a lot less than Rumpus, but the latest version of Rumpus comes with all the necessary features and bandwidth limiting works as it should. Cost still needs addressing... Rumpus is totally reliable and very fast, well done! But get the price reduced!

bandwidth limiter works perfectly well here - on uploads and downloads. Tons of new features added into Rumpus since v2. Very happy - though the cost is a little 'off' esp when compared to Crush. Come one Maxum!! Other than the price - an awesome application that performs as it should, perfect!

    "Rumpus ROCKS"

    September 9, 2003  |   By seanm

    Version: Rumpus 3.2.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Just wanted to say - If you are looking for a solid- easy to use, easy to set up, SOLIDLY supported FTP service- this is the one. YES It is a $$$ purchase - but trust me the "screw with it" time you save will be worth it. If you are setting this up for your business- don't be cheap - buy it -set it up and go back to work- your boss will thank you. Great support, solid product that saves TONS of time, can make your WHOLE ftp available via http with a few clicks (and give each client their own space too((try doing that in less than 5 minutes on ANY other solution or in CLI). We have 5 clients using this product (pre-press and video guys- who beat the crap out of it too) and quite simply - they don't call, they don't write- we never have to fix it.

    "Excellent company, excellent server application"

Maxum has been building great Mac server software for a decade. Rumpus is great now; early versions wowed folks back in the pre-MacOS 9 days, too. (And I still love NetCloak!)

"Use if you have a social life."

    Version: Rumpus 3.1fc2

    Summary

Command-line geeks that have enough time devoted to dissing GUI's might as well stick to using CLI for their operating system. Who needs Photoshop - you can edit the file with the command line! With Rumpus, adding a user takes, ooh, less than five seconds, also has a web interface (which none of the mentioned CLI apps have, at all) and every aspect of its configuration takes less than bringing up pico to edit a configuration file. It's the usual thing - a GUI app comes along that takes the exclusivity and clique off the hands of those grasping at the concept of elite. I write applications even more low-level than CLI's, and I applaud Rumpus for not wasting my time when I have better things to do, like having a social life or responding to comments like the one below :o)

"Only if you're rich & stupid"

Might be worth the $$$$$ if you're just now getting around to upgrading your 6100s running WebStar and NetPresenz to OSX, so you don't have to learn any icky command line stuff. Anyone that knows what they're doing is better off with proftpd, ncftpd, or even wu-ftpd. It's really funny that anyone would do a carbon ftp server (or web server, for that matter) on OSX.
