The challenging puzzles and cheerful music in this charming Dig-Dug retread helped us to forgive some functionality issues. Rockfall The Return stars a potato named Spud who digs through a maze collecting gems. You have limited time to complete the puzzle, although since the clock doesn't count down by seconds, it's hard to gauge how much time you actually have left. If a rock falls on Spud from too high, you lose a life. If a rock blocks his path so he can't collect all the gems, you have to try again. When you have to retry a level, the new Spud starts on autoplay, then pauses and looks at you. You can start controlling him again with the arrow keys. While that's a nice touch, we would have liked an in-game help. The help file is only available from the Start menu and, since the game only operates in full-screen mode, is inaccessible while you are playing. We also found that quitting out of the game takes longer than we would like, making it potentially dangerous to run at work. Arcade puzzle fans will enjoy the gameplay in Rockfall The Return, but may get frustrated with the lack of refinement.

Rockfall puts you into the boots of a treasure-seeking fellow who goes by the name of Spud. His goal in life is to collect as many gems as possible to secure a nice retirement fund for himself and his family. On his quest he has to tunnel underground and collect all of the gems he can find.

The only problem is he is hindered by the ever-present risk of falling boulders, various nasties, and other hazards, which are all hell bent on him not making it to his retirement. Rockfall is a classic arcade puzzler for the entire family.
