RoboForm is an application that can assist you in speeding up your Internet experience by bookmarking sites and entering previously saved passwords.

As soon as you install RoboForm a toolbar will be added to your Web browser. The design is very sleek and it blends very well so that you hardly notice the addition. If you're always worried about forgetting the passwords for your favorite Web sites, this can be very helpful. It's relatively easy to figure out how to use most of the features, but there are also tutorial videos on the publisher's site (which will pop up after you install RoboForm). These are very helpful and show the steps clearly.

You will be able to save passwords, bookmark Web site addresses, and generate new passwords. RoboForm even does the job of logging in for you once you've set up all of the information needed. Our favorite feature is the Password Generator, since it makes it easier to regularly change passwords to keep your accounts safe. All of this data can either be saved on just your computer or both on your computer and online through syncing. You can set this up in the beginning or change it later.

You shouldn't encounter any problems during the download and installation process. You are required to close certain programs in order for it to continue installing correctly, so make sure you save any work before installing. We recommend this handy browser add-on for any user who spends a lot of time surfing the Web.

Editors' note: This is a review of the full version of RoboForm 7.8. The trial version is limited to 30 days.

"Roboform 7.1.1 now has 2 upgrade fees 4 what was in 6.x"

December 18, 2010  |  By heartspeace

 |  Version: RoboForm 7.1.9

Pros

Good software - but its coming from a company who is going back on their own statements about no future upgrade feeds. It was good software, but now they are splitting up the functionality that was in one product into multiple to make more $$$.

Cons

Can't be trusted for various reasons in keeping your passwords in their databases unless you pay a yearly fee to access them, akin to holding your passwords hostage, and charging $$$$ for multiple licenses (See below).

Summary

There are three main problems - upgrade fees - hostage data - and RoboForm not keeping their word / breaking their own license. You make your own call if you want to deal with a company like this after reading this review. When this product is uploaded as version 7, I will repost this review there as well.

Roboform is now at 7.1.1 - but they aren't honoring their license for free upgrades - and now make you pay for two upgrades (one yearly).

They split out their Roboform Online functionality that was part 6.x, and made it so you have to pay a near $10 fee YEARLY to access your data that is secured on their website.(You do not have access to it locally) If you lose your password, or if you don't pay their $10 - your passwords are out of luck - your frozen out (unless somehow you can talk them into making an exception to get your data before they make you pay the other $10 for the next year). By the way this functionality was stripped out of the 7.x desktop product. So if you relied on it - sorry your SOL. Another words, they have your data and unless you pay you cant get it.

The second upgrade is in the base product. They are charging nearly $20 per license for the first license to upgrade the product. The second and so on license that you may have if you have multiple users are near $10. Normally I wouldn't have a problem with upgrade fees, but there not having an upgrade fee is exactly why I bought it. On their website from at least 2005-2010 the following was displayed and NO upgrade fees were levied against users from either version 5 to version 6 (or any previous version up to version 6 or any release of version 6):
-----------------------
From Roboforms website over the years (courtesy of Wayback Machine http://www.archive.org/web/web.php )

From their FAQ 2005-Oct 2010

"Q: If I upgrade to the new version of RoboForm, do I have to pay again for RoboForm Pro?

A: So far we did not charge for upgrades. Just install the new version over the old version. However, if you upgrade from ver 5 to ver 6, you will lose Pro status and you will have to activate RoboForm Pro again, but you do not have to buy it again."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So in a nutshell, while this is a nice program - they can't be trusted in my opinion. If they were to have instituted a new license for new users from when version 7 was released and grandfathered in older users to that they have free upgrades for both sets of functionality, as I suggested to them, they would be fine. Its ethical and honest then. Unfortunately, to me, this is neither ethical or honest to go back and change the terms of a license agreement and verbal contract (It was the reason I brought the licenses in the first place was no future upgrade fees). In fact, it smacks of a class action lawsuit for any lawyers out there considering their hundreds of thousands, if not millions of customers who this will impact. In effect if someone has 5 licenses for their home computers, they now have to pay $80 just for part of their previous functionality in version 7, and another $50 each year for the rest of the functionality in version 7 - winding up $130 for the first year alone. Who knows what they will charge in several months from now with a version 8. For me, yes, sign me up for any class action lawsuit.

In 'Pros' section - typo: feeds - should fees

In Summary the line: "By the way this functionality was stripped out of the 7.x desktop product." should read: "By the way, the Roboform Online functionality that was in the 6.x desktop product was stripped out of the 7.x desktop product - making it a separate product altogether."

The line:
Normally I wouldn't have a problem with upgrade fees, but there not having an upgrade fee is exactly why I bought it.
Should read:
Normally I wouldn't have a problem with upgrade fees, but their not having any upgrade fees is exactly why I bought it.

I tried to write them and explain the situation, and their own license terms that disallowed this type of behavior and was just told to pay the new upgrade fees or continue to use the old version of the product. This is NOT a new version and the new features in 7.x are fairly minor in the scope of the overall product. To me its clearly a breach of contract and of ethics in my opinion.

Sorry - I wish there was an edit button for the reviews - I clicked it before I caught the last mistake:

The line:
This is NOT a new version and the new features in 7.x are fairly minor in the scope of the overall product. To me its clearly a breach of contract and of ethics in my opinion.
Should read:
"This is just a new version and not a new product and the new features in 7.x are fairly minor in the scope of the overall product. To me its clearly a breach of contract and of ethics in my opinion."

I just can't stand when companies don't follow through with their word. It is a deep reflection of the management of the corporation and that is, specifically, those who made such decisions.

"RoboForm is unethical and arrogant"

February 23, 2014  |  By kknobblykknees

 |  Version: RoboForm 7.1.9

Pros

Was my favourite password manager for many years

Cons

From v7 RoboForm deliberately make your own data unusable to prevent you from moving to another password manager. Cyber vandalism is so pathetic.

The Android implementation of RoboForm really doesn't do the job at all, when prompted for a login by any website, there is just no way to auto-fill from RoboForm.

Finally support is arrogant and unhelpful - on all other issues I have tried to het help with, or made a suggestion for improvement.

Summary

Fallen from grace in the biggest possible way - avoid at all costs.

 |  Version: RoboForm 7.1.9

Cons

"Horrible to customers"

April 26, 2012  |  By skullaria-2009

 |  Version: RoboForm 7.1.9

Pros

Used to work good.
Can save forms with custom fields.

Cons

License contract breach
NO respect for customers
Confusing license scheme
if computer goes to sleep, has to be restarted to work

Summary

I used to like roboform because it worked like a dream. Then they upgraded it and the auto update came up, and I wase, supposed to have free updates, so I did it, and then I was screwed and I've been screwed since, even though I DID buy the new version. It doesn't work right and still tells me to upgrade all the time. :(

"CNET stinks absolutely!"

November 05, 2011  |  By ArthurClarke

 |  Version: RoboForm 7.1.9

Pros

CNET has NO redeeming value.

Cons

Internet sleeze aimed at suckering the innocent into buying and downloading programs they don't need or want.

Summary

This is NOT a review about RoboForm, except that they use CNET to distribute their program. I have learned painfully to be very careful in navigating CNET's Web page. It is designed to distract and confuse. I gave it one star only because I was unable to give it NO (ZERO) star, which it deserves.

The faster RoboForm can replace CNET the better.

The one RoboForm irritation is that it has an unwelcome habit of alerting a user to an upgrade in the middle of things. More useful would be to give the option of upgrading after one has closed out of work.

"Roboform-Siber Systems Dishonest!"

October 01, 2011  |  By mark_sj_ca2

 |  Version: RoboForm 7.1.9

Pros

Product works as advertised

Cons

Roboform is dishonest. After advertising free upgrades they reneged on their word and have said to their users that they must PAY. Since Roboform version 7 is REQUIRED for Firefox 6 (or 5, or 4!) all must succumb to their piracy.

Summary

Roboform Better Business Bureau page now has a big REVOKED on it because of so many complaints. Here's the link to the BBB page: http://www.bbb.org/washington-dc-eastern-pa/business-reviews/computers-software-and-services/siber-systems-in-fairfax-va-7004423/

Here's the link that PROVES free upgrades where offered when I purchased: http://web.archive.org/web/20080822215550/www.roboform.com/why-pro.html

If this Russian based company is unethical enough to break their word regarding upgrades, are they unethical enough to sell my passwords to the Russian mob? *gulp*

Updated on Oct 2, 2011

I'm happy to report that within 48 hours of filing a report here, that Roboform/Siber systems upgraded my license.

If anybody from Roboform/Siber systems reads this... you shouldn't just be doing this for your customers that complain in public venues. You should proactively be doing this for all customers that you sold under the "free upgrades" offer. That's the RIGHT thing to do!

"Dont trust them."

August 03, 2011  |  By gibletz

 |  Version: RoboForm 7.1.9

Pros

Good product. Used it for years and was overall pretty happy with it.

Cons

Don't honour the terms of their upgrade agreement so I won't trust them with my card details. Unfortunately they (Siber systems) committed the cardinal sin of reneging on the original purchase terms and so they will never see any of my money again.

Summary

I now use LastPass.
