CNET Editors' review
Ringdroid's free ringtone app creates tones, alarms, and notifications from MP3, WAV,AAC/MP4, 3GPP/AMR files you load onto your phone through the SD card or that you purchase through the Amazon MP3 store. Unlike many Android apps that use the Menu keys to store some software functions, most of Ringdroid's controls are out on the interface and all respond to touch. You can set the start and ending notes by sliding arrows along the timeline, by pressing Start and End to record the point, or by typing in time stamps.
Zoom buttons help set precise marks on the timeline. It might still take some prolonged trial and error to get your tone just right; part of that is the nature of the beast. Yet since Ringdroid is equipped with a Record button on the app interface, there's always the opportunity to lay down your own sounds from scratch. Ringdroid misses options for fading in and out, looping, and equalizing song selections--that would be a good addition for the Menu button, or for a pro version. Still, Ringdroid's ease of use makes it a great choice for people to create free ringtones from their own music collections.

"Neat Tool!"
Version: Ringdroid 2.4
Pros
compatible with a variety of formats
Great for truly personalizing your phone with a truly unique ringtoneCons
Maybe just more of a preference issue: I'd like to actually edit the ringtone on my desktop, then transfer that to my phone. The functionality actually could be there, but I haven't found it.
Summary
This is a great tool for those of us who like to hear our favorite song when our phone rings, or for setting up a ringtone for a particular person on your contact list. Takes a little time to figure it out, but that's because there's so much functionality!

"Captivate Galaxy S AT&T"
Version: Ringdroid 2.2
Pros
Nice to have a notification tone option
Cons
music skips like a bad cd or vinyl when music selected as "notification". If Ringtone or alarm, it's fine.
Summary
With my BBy, I had three different tones for all three email clients. On the Droid, it's not even an option unless I download Ringdroid (so I was told). I've been on with tech support for over 30 minutes at AT&T, then Samsung, now back to AT&T and still on hold. Bottom line is that if this is what I need to do to get a clear notifications, it isn't worth it.

"Great for making your own ringtones"
Version: Ringdroid 2.2
Pros
Easy to use, great interface, ringtone sound quality is the same as the original song
Cons
No fade-in/out, doesn't actually assign the ringtone to a contact, somewhat limited formats.
Summary
This is a great app. The songs are played at full quality as your ringtone and not compressed or shredded like some other apps I've seen. It's really easy to pick out what part of the song you want. You can have it as short as you want, or you can pick as long a segment.
The few complaints I have are pretty minor. You can decide if fade-in/out is a positive for you. I'd like it, but it's certainly not a deal breaker. When it says if you'd like to assign your new ringtone to a contact, and you select one, it doesn't actually do it. You still have to go into "contacts" and assign it there. Not a huge problem, but it seems to be a broken part of the program. And the formats are somewhat limited. I have MP3 and WMA files on my phone, but it will only convert the MP3 files. A minor headache, but I guess it's worth mentioning.
All that said, this is a must have app. If they fix those things, then I'd have no problem giving this app 5 stars. -
"Nifty piece of software"
Version: Ringdroid 2.1
Pros
Very easy to create ringtones from your music files. With it's graphic interface it automatically cuts about the first 15 seconds of a song. The start and end points are easily adjusted to come up with great custom ring tones.
Cons
The tap start and stop while playing didn't correctly set the start and end times of the clip on my Motorola Droid.
Summary
Great app. Moving the sliders to adjust the clip is so easy that not being able to directly cut out the middle of a song doesn't bother me at all. Usually the first 10 to 30 seconds of the song is a good enough hook to make a great ringtone.
