Rhymesaurus provides users with a fast, effective way to find a word's rhyme. In addition, the program offers some bonus features that make this stand out from its competition.
The program's interface is incredibly simple, with only one place to enter data. Beyond that, the program is broken into tabs for various definitions, which keeps things simple. Users should not need the Help file, though one is available. The program begins with users entering their word in a search engine. From there, they may choose one of the seven tabs for answers. Tabs include Dictionary, Thesaurus, Rhyme, Sounds Like, Word Surf, Pattern, and Scratch Pad. While the first four tabs are fairly self-explanatory and provide a long list of answers in each tab, two others are quite interesting. Word Surf provides a way to sort a word's meanings from verb, noun, adverb and others to its type, its antonyms and more. The Pattern option is great for writers, because you can search for words with the same syllable patterns. The Scratch Pad is simply a place for notes. Overall, this is an exciting tool for word lovers, with fast results and a ton of dexterity. The program does not offer any features beyond its primary functions. However, we feel like those include so many bells and whistles, there is no need to expect more from Rhymesarus.
With fantastic results and simple controls, it will not take the entire 30-day trial for word lovers to fall head-over-heels for this download.

Cons: nothing yet 4 now

Version: Rhymesaurus 2
"Fantastic, as long as you use a PC"
Pros: I've never seen a rhyming dictionary/dictionary/thesaurus with this many options: assonance, consonants, sound-alikes, starts with, etc. It's all very conveniently organized and they give you a "scratch pad" to assemble results.
Cons: They don't have a Mac version, and apparently have no plans to. Since I got a MacBook Pro, I don't even want to touch my PC, and when I get a new desktop I plan to make it a Mac. Rhymesaurus is the ONLY thing I will miss.
Summary: Too good not to be available for Mac.

Version: Rhymesaurus 2
"Lots of good rhymes in a usable interface"
Pros: It has rhymes of many kinds, a thesaurus, and definitions all in one place.
Cons: The interface is a little klunky. I'd like to see the database accessed through a macro or extension for Microsoft Word so that it would work transparently right in the editor.

Version: Rhymesaurus 2
"Versatile product that does much more than simply rhyme"
Pros: From perfect (normative) rhyming, light, elided, consonance, etc., etc., this program seems to handle it. Add in the thorough dictionary and thesaurus (amongst other joys) and you have a formidable tool for wordsmithing.
Cons: There is so much available in Rhymesaurus that inexperienced users may wander astray in their explorations and spend more time playing than writing!
Summary: I can almost always count on Rhymesaurus to find the right word for the situation. When it doesn't it is usually because I don't know what I'm looking for, not because the program has failed. The dictionary is very complete in providing definition... read more >>
