"well-thought-out"
Version: Reunion 9.0b
Pros
the best for Mac users
Cons
nada - had no problems- just gets better
Summary
Easy, fun, thorough

"By far the best for the Mac"
Version: Reunion 9.0a
Pros
The interface and display are both extremely intuitive. Reports are easy to generate and modify. Adding photos is also very easy. I haven't tried other AV media. I have never had to contact technical support. Allows adding pets, non-relatives.
Cons
I only wish it had a Windows version, because Reunion spoiled me for any of the Windows-based genealogy apps, which I find much less intuitive to use.

"A vessel for the ages"
Version: Reunion 9.09
Pros
Fourteen years I've been a Reunion user. Nothing else comes close. I have 240,000 relatives entered. I've got pictures, the text of entire books, voice recordings. Staggeringly stable!
Cons
Gee, it's not ported from windows. It's Gedcom files will preserve your information for the ages. It's really cheap for what you get. It' simple and intuitive. Can't think of much else WRONG with it.
Summary
One time I somehow fouled the file. They fixed it promptly; told me who was involved (their names and file numbers), so that I could restore the information--they did this cheerfully, quickly and with great regard to the irreplacible nature of my scholarship. I just love these folks. And the author plays a stunning guitar too.

"Good but with limitations"
Version: Reunion 9.09
Pros
Easy entry, generally very easy to use as one would expect.
Cons
Distinction between facts and events annoying (eg can't have a fact such as occupation with a date)
Can't have more than one name per person
No custom reports
GEDCOMs do not export/import very well with other programs
Some trees confusing.Summary
Having used (and at times cursed) Family Tree Maker, I bought this for my MAC having heard how good it was. I expected to be able to transfer my files (in GEDCOM format) back and forth with ease. However, partly because Reunion distinguishes between an 'event' (which has a date) and a 'fact' (which does not), the import/export is only about 70% successful which is not good enough. So I am largely using Reunion just to keep a copy of a file on my lap top to take with me for reference.
Input is easy and straightforward. However, there is often more than one spelling or version of older names and Reunion doesn't allow for this. Their support people suggested creating using the 'alias/aka' fact, but this isn't very satisfactory as it may not be an aka.
It is not easy to get a quick overview of specific information. eg. you might want to do a quick look at all the people with a certain surname to see where and when they were born. No can do.
The trees and reports are easy to use but it's annoying that it always tries to save them. Most often, all you want to do is a quick look. It's choice of charts is also limited.
Features like tree tops are good and it is easy to change the layout of what is displayed.
The index has some excellent features such as the ability to search on married names, update in the index. However,I've yet to find out whether it is possible to list death date in the index, which would be useful.
Overall, it is a good product which would be a lot better if the authors had looked at the best features in a few other programs and incorporated them and also made the GEDCOM function more standard to facilitate interworking and increase their market by making easier for potential customers to move to Reunion. Moving existing files is always a major impediment to change. -
"Quick Response to Enhance/Fix Major Upgrade to..."
Version: Reunion 9.05
Summary
...Great Program
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Same Title, and same reasons, I gave for my feedback on 9.03 are valid for 9.05 (and while not submitted, were also for 9.04. As you'll see from the list of changes, some are to squash bugs, but others are in response to specific requests by users.
The primary reason for this Feedback is that the VersionTracker statistics fail to recognize that a single Feedback has provided a rating and continues to report the software as "This Version: Not Rated". I'm hoping that by providing a second rating this version of Reunion will now include imacmike's rating. -

Summary
...Great Program

Easy to use, but powerful, genealogy program continues to improve. What Gib Henry noted with regard to v9.01 can be said, too, for v9.02. Another free maintenance release for owners of v9 has promptly brought both enhancements and squashing of bugs. Developer really listens to its users' comments and then does something in direct response--and quickly. -
"v9 More Elegant"
Version: Reunion 9.01
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I found Reunion 8 to be an excellent program--easy to use yet powerful and sophisticated under the hood and very long on features--but v9 surpasses it in elegance and resolves the few minor quirks and non-standard behaviors that bothered me somewhat in in v8. The responses to squash the bugs that are inevitable in a major rewrite like this were rapid and effective, and support response was quick and substantive, showing a true dedication to the quality of the software. V9 appears to inherit the rock-solid stability of its predecessor. -
"Fantastic Enhancements to an Already Superb Program"
Version: Reunion 9.0
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
What was already a fantastic, easy-to-use-but-full-featured program--for novice to expert user, has been enhanced with all sorts of great new or improved features. (For the full list, go to <http://www.leisterpro.com/doc/version9/newfeatures/newfeatures.php>.)
I have to respectfully disagree with noahchumleigh's review. In my opinion, MacFamily Tree isn't even in the same league as Reunion for ease and features. Nor do I find you need to miss out on all the features and output products (reports & charts) that Reunion offers by using a GEDCOM-based product as suggested by rayjay. Even as a "serious genealogist", Reunion is more than up to the task--and you can still do GEDCOM exports and imports to interact with fellow genealogists who aren't fortunate enough to be using Reunion.
Disclaimer: I have no commercial connection with Leister Productions, the developer of Reunion. I'm just a long-time Reunion user who found from day 1 that Reunion was a cinch to learn, actually fun to use, provided very efficient data entry and manipulation, and easily let me produce fabulous reports and charts with which to share my genealogy endeavors with others in my extended family. (That may sound like a paid commercial, but it isn't. In my opinion, Reunion just deserves the praise.) -
"Not as good as Macfamily Tree"

Not anywhere as good as Macfamily Tree. Unwieldy and difficult to understand how to use.
