simple User interface, terrible technicals
This is the worst POS software we've ever dealt with. With every new patch update, there pops us a new issue, posing big threats to our business continuity.
We are frequently having instances where we are forced to shift to hand written receipts due to unforeseen technical snags in this software. We are spending more time on emailing errors to their support team than using the software.
The support team too is unprofessional and rude.
Don't fall prey to such sub-standard products crowding the market. We have been disappointed largely with our decision of bringing this software aboard, and at the moment are looking for transition to a better software. while you purchase a POS, keep in mind that migration of data from one software to another is a cumbersome procedure with possibility of damage to the data. This software doesn't deserve even a part of those stars there.
The good thing is that it is designed for simplicity so even a layman can understand how to operate it.
However, After upgrading to 2.34 version, there are lots of problems arising:
1) Every time an item is clicked to enter into the invoice and the line is deleted in order to change the quantity, while re entering, along string of errors appear;
2.) In the table view, no quick menu buttons are displayed, what ever you do!
3.) When items are added to a table, even after the check out the table is shown as occupied, no matter how many times you checkout and restart the software.
4.) The item quantity is shown in place of serial numbers in the printed invoice...looks confusing. Sadly, there's no flexibility to change the layout of the invoice design.
5.)The company name and message is printed at the end of receipts, it's of no use there!
6.) Cannot delete any historical invoices printed in error or for trials. This pollutes actual business reports
7.) In version 2.29, the open drawer button didn't function.To open the drawer, you either need to ring a mock sale or use the drawer key.
These are just the surface of the problems.
I fell for the cheap price. But you think several times before investing your money on this thing. Definitely not a good choice if you are looking for a reliable software. Can take a toll of your business!!!
quick access buttons
Not customizable even to the basic level (Adding just the data they ask for is not termed "customisable". Even the cheapest software give an option to configure how your invoice looks and what it should contain. This doesn't.
Boring interface; can't even make out the color difference in occupied and vacant tables.
Test print entries cannot be deleted!!
Item discount doesn't show up as a line item, but affects the item price directly.
Modifiers cannot be added to a menu, unless you maintain it as a inventory catagory.
The cash drawer opens twice; at the beginning of invoice printing and after that. Irritating.
Most of the times, when an item is clicked to be added to the invoice, a long string of error appears, which only God knows, how to fix. This leads to lot of confusions during peak business hours leading to wrong orders, resulting in significant losses in day sales
While upgrading to a new computer, you have to pay for a new license and the old one cannot be used.
Don't fall for the $99 number. This is just a generic software. Don't waste your money on this; it is too precious to spend on this software. Either spend a little more and buy a better software like Abacre or still better, you could rather opt for a cash register or a hand written bill.
I have been using Restaurant Maid since I first opened my bar in 2008.I choose Restaurant Maid because it offered tons of flexibility in customizing the software to meet the specific needs of my business. It is exceptionally affordable for what you get. It is not a stripped down, no option software, just the opposite, it's loaded with options! It is extremely user friendly when it comes to setup and use. The inventory control and report features are awesome and help my business run smoothly. Another thing that I liked about the software was the flexibility of being able to select from a wide variety of hardware. You are not stuck to one expensive system; you can build a system that fits your needs and budget. The system is quick and keeps up without hesitation. The number one feature that has kept me loyal to Restaurant Maid is the stability of the system. We have three stations and none of them have ever crashed, not even during our busiest nights when they are being used constantly!
The only issue I have with the system is; If the printer runs out of paper, the drawer will not open until the paper roll is replaced. Not a big issue, simple soultion, keep a few extra rolls of paper by the printer. Changing the paper takes all of 2 seconds.
Our business relies on our POS systems to survive and grow, and Restaurant Maid has helped our business grow. I recommend it, you won't regret it.I love this system and have confidently recommended it to a few friends who love it. If you have any questions customer service is great and the support section on the wedsite is awsome. 4 plus years and counting!
Easy to use software does everything we ask of it. Price is great, especially for a small business.
I'll have to think about that one. We've been using the system for almost 2 years and wouldn't use anything else
I would recommend this software to anyone. It is particularly easy to use which is very helpful for a novice user, yet it has all the features we need.
I used it in my coffee shop between 2008 to 2009, I had to close and move to Mexico, I have now gone back to using at my pizza place, is an excellent program, the most important is the ease to use for my employees, they use it without problem, also fits to any business, besides its price is great too. I love it.

I looked at many different programs and Restaurant Maid was the best program with the best price with a great support team.

This is a great POS system and very user friendly. I love that it can run on a basic PC, yet is compatible with receipt printers and a cash drawer. It offers a small restaurant like ours a professional system to ring orders, track sales, and have functional reporting - all for a price that we can handle.
Some limitations if you have hardware issues on the computer the program is loaded on, but tech support is responsive.
All in all - I like the functionality of this system and the flexibility to customize it to my restaurant needs. Best product for the price that I have found!
Excellent POS Solution at great price, easy to customize, easy to operate, great reports, + many other cool things. Also is very light and you don't need a high end computer, i'm using a old celeron and works perfect. You won't find something like this at this price. Touchscreen monitors work perfect.

I'm operating a fast food restaurant and Restaurant Maid is the Perfect software for me, with the option of using the per order or per table set up. It's very simple to understand and operate. It has a very decent control and reporting system...
Very Happy with it and would highly recommend it!
I guess the printing takes some time as of now. Will try it on an Epson receipt printer and will update review.
We have been using Restaurant Maid for about a year now. This program is easy to program and to learn; the instructional tutorials were very well done. We are a small Bistro and Restaurant Maid actually has everything we need. The reports are simple and I can easily tell what I sold each night by item and in total. I am very happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone that is looking at an economical POS system.
The biggest con I have is that it doesn't work with MAC computers which i prefer using. In addition, computers break down especially PC's they are always crashing. I think they should price it to get a permanent login and password to download. Then when the computer has to be rebuilt we can still use the program without the hassle of a new license even though its the same computer.
When I first started looking at a POS system I looked at many different programs and for what I needed Restaurant Maid was the best program with the best price and the least amount of hassles. Thanks! :)
