"Finally! The right one!"
Version: Realtek High Definition Audio Codec (Windows 2000/XP/2003) 2.70
Pros
The download was simple enough, and the installation proceeded without issue It installed the driver and the tray icon so that it can be configured properly. Unfortunately the MoBo in question has turned out to be dodgy, so I may not be re-using this driver.
Cons
Realtek Drivers only list themselves in Windows as AC'97 Media Controller, and there are so many of these with different numbers that it takes a huge amount of research to find the correct numbered driver. Fortunately, I hit it first time.

"Hmmm...It's usablem, but it's NOT the best."
Version: Realtek High Definition Audio Codec (Windows 2000/XP/2003) 2.70
Pros
It's necessary for sound output if you don't have a sound driver already, plus it's free.
Cons
The developpers emoved features that were in the 97' Audio Codec.
Which is sad because the HD codec for Vista/7/8 HAVE THE FEATURES...
While the 2000/XP/2003 versions...
do not have?
I am not very happy.Summary
They've cut out many of the features that the AC'97 Audio Codecs has, which is a shame... And as for the reason why I'm not using the AC'97 but this one, it's mainly because they've stopped providing firmware updates... So much for stability and security maintenance. That last update was like...*checks website* 2008/10/1... ...oh my god. The HQ Audio Codec has its last update this year (2012/6/22)...why, just why!?!
I really enjoyed the equalizers, the virtualizer and the pitch changer though...I wish that they didn't removed them in this version.
BTW I didn't compared the frequency output between the 97' and the HQ, because it is a hassle to install inbetween the drivers(unlike programs, you have to REBOOT and UNINSTALL)...If there is any noticeable degradation in sound quality, please tell. What I got from Wikipedia was that the HQ one had more channels thus making the sound quality better than the 97'... in theory. But is there any physical noticeable difference in the sound quality? -
