"Needs a lot of work"
Allows you to stream videos from your PC to your television if you have a compatible device. Easy to install and use.
Where to start? If you stream from the player to the Roku app it only works with videos, not music. There is no search function so if you want to find a specific video and have a large collection you have to scroll through everything until you find it. Will not stream mkv videos unless you shell out 40 bucks for the premium version. Will not play subtitles, whether files like srt or sub or embedded in an mkv file. Will not acknowledge playlists that you create on the computer version. Then there's the chromecast app--it does have a search function but any video you select says format not compatible to cast with chromecast so you need to load the video in the cloud in order to stream it. This takes hours and if it's a large video will also likely require that you pony up money for more cloud storage.
This is the easiest method I have found to stream videos from my PC to my television but the limitations when using the Roku and Chromecast apps are ridiculous. The web site claims that if you pay for the premium version you can not only play mkv videos but also access embedded subtitles but I have yet to come across a video where that was actually the case. RealPlayer Cloud is a good idea that's pretty poorly executed and still needs a lot of work.
