Editors' review

RealPlayer Cloud is a cloud storage tool designed specifically for video storage. It's a valuable tool for anyone that records large numbers of videos on their iPhone or iPad that they may not want on YouTube. The tool is easy to set up and it's optimized for iOS 7 so it looks and operates smoothly and without any slowdowns, making it one of the better free cloud storage options for video on the App Store.

When you download RealPlayer Cloud, you'll need to log in or register a new account. This is a process that takes a couple of minutes. You can connect directly to Facebook during registration as well, which will allow you to publish videos to Facebook or download them from your Facebook account to your phone or cloud account. After the relatively fast sign-up process, everything runs very smoothly. The app provides a short tutorial and you can start uploading videos, moving them to the cloud, streaming them to devices in your home, connecting to your devices to download videos, and more. Any video can be added to a collection, tagged, shared, or uploaded to a service of your choice and all uploading/downloading occurs in the background. With a sleek, modern interface, RealPlayer has produced one of the best cloud tools available for multimedia on the App Store.

If you record a lot of videos on your phone, then RealPlayer Cloud is a great free app for your phone. It's easy to use, fast, and offers 2GB of storage out of the box for free. While it's not a total cloud solution for all files, it's great for video lovers.

    "A piece of GARBAGE!"

    July 30, 2014   |   By StevenTorrey

    Version: RealPlayer Cloud 1.6.45

    Pros

    It will download videos quickly...

    Cons

It takes whatever is on your desk top and try to send it to something called 'Realcloud' but that material cannot be accessed because it is NOT video--it is document--texts... But there it is in the "Realcloud"... and cannot be accessed.

    Summary

The previous version simply downloaded a video to your computer; really great for educational videos--like Kahn Academy--for ease of access for later constulation. Now, I really have no idea how to keep 'realcloud' from uselessly downloading material on my desktop to the "realcloud"; worse, I cannot access from the desktop my material. I have to go to my files to access my material so it makes the convenience of the desktop totally ineffective I will probably get rid of 'realcloud' and use something less intrusive. "Realcloud" as it is now, is a piece of GARBAGE!

"Not bad, but not good enough"

    March 22, 2014   |   By Firecat_exe

    Version: RealPlayer Cloud 1.4.45

    Pros

    - You can stream your videos on many devices such as the Roku, Chromecast, Android, etc.
    - Downloads and converts videos easily, however, other free utilities can do better.
    - 2 GB of Cloud Storage, which can be easily expanded.

    Cons

    - Comes bundled with optional offers from OpenCandy in the installer, which I don't really like.
    - 15 Minute limitation on all videos on PC and Web to prevent "piracy"
    - Sells your name, age, country, sex, pc statistics and browsing habits to third-party companies. I don't like that.

    Summary

Not the best option out there. I recommend using something else.

    "Nice idea. Needs work."

    March 15, 2014   |   By hbuetow

    Version: RealPlayer Cloud 1.4.45

    Pros

A great concept. Personal storage of videos across several devices.

    Cons

The best name for this App would be "Real player cloud has stopped working". Freezes and crashes regularly. No longer has the ability to "add to now playing". Each video has to be individually selected, unless you create a playlist. Whereas, you could customize each session by adding a video to now playing. Crash, crash, crash. Fix it !!

    Summary

Needs work. Nice idea. Crashes and stops working all too often.

    "Not a bad little app"

    February 24, 2014   |   By JessiexJessie

    Version: RealPlayer Cloud 1.3.55

    Pros

Really easy to use, and makes sending longer videos to friends simple. Also good if you wan to move videos between your various devices.

    Cons

Can be a bit slow to upload videos, especially on 3G, but considering the size of your average video file, I guess this is to be expected.

    "Needs a lot of work"

    December 31, 2013   |   By jhs39

    Version: RealPlayer Cloud 1.2.104

    Pros

Allows you to stream videos from your PC to your television if you have a compatible device. Easy to install and use.

    Cons

Where to start? If you stream from the player to the Roku app it only works with videos, not music. There is no search function so if you want to find a specific video and have a large collection you have to scroll through everything until you find it. Will not stream mkv videos unless you shell out 40 bucks for the premium version. Will not play subtitles, whether files like srt or sub or embedded in an mkv file. Will not acknowledge playlists that you create on the computer version. Then there's the chromecast app--it does have a search function but any video you select says format not compatible to cast with chromecast so you need to load the video in the cloud in order to stream it. This takes hours and if it's a large video will also likely require that you pony up money for more cloud storage.

    Summary

This is the easiest method I have found to stream videos from my PC to my television but the limitations when using the Roku and Chromecast apps are ridiculous. The web site claims that if you pay for the premium version you can not only play mkv videos but also access embedded subtitles but I have yet to come across a video where that was actually the case. RealPlayer Cloud is a good idea that's pretty poorly executed and still needs a lot of work.
