"Great entry-level web builder for the Mac"

    March 18, 2010  |   By BeamMeUpJC

    Version: RapidWeaver 4.3.1

    Pros

If you have content, you can put together a website very quickly.
You can download additional themes (templates) and use them with RapidWeaver.
You don't need to know any HTML or CSS to build web pages with RapidWeaver.

    Cons

If you know HTML and CSS and want to tweak the code, it's pretty tough to do it. Rapidweaver generates some code on the fly as you upload your files, and this caused me some problems.
A lot of the user-made themes (templates) cost $.

    Summary

I got this product as part of a MacHeist bundle ($20 for 10 applications, including RapidWeaver), so it was a sweet deal. Since I know HTML and CSS, I don't think I would have paid $80 for this app because it doesn't allow me as much control as I like to have over my sites. That being said, if you are new to web design or just need to get a site up quickly, this is one of the best WYSIWYG page builders I've seen. The code it generates is fairly clean, and you can install (some for purchase) a number of different plug-ins that will allow you to include different functionality such as slideshows or shopping carts in your site. In summary: if you're used to using a product like Dreamweaver, RapidWeaver will seem limiting. But if you don't have much experience with web design, RapidWeaver will empower you to build websites quickly and easily.

I've been using Rapidweaver for several years and highly recommend it. The ease of use is great for beginners and those who wish can take it further to create highly customized sites. Beginners should try the demo and see it they are comfortable with the software and watch the videos on the Rapidweaver site. There are other videos about using Rapidweaver on the internet as well. The Rapidweaver Forum is a gold mine of information - users, staff and developers are extremely helpful in figuring out just what you want to do if you have a problem or an idea. There is an amazing group of plugin, theme and add-on developers who extend the capabilities of Rapidweaver. This software has been around a long time and the staff and community are devoted to making it even better all the time. I moved to this software from Dreamweaver several years ago and never went back. I use it to develop customized sites for clients. Keep in mind that it is made to be used by one user at a time, though there are plugins and addons that can allow input from others. In other words, it is not a CMS system, but can be customized to allow CMS to work.
I use Dropbox to store my files so I can access the files from both my computers.

"RapidWeaver is the easiest way to do websites on a MAC"

    May 26, 2009  |   By kdrew

    Version: RapidWeaver 4.2.3

    Pros

Great for MAC users; Intuitive to use after a few tries; GREAT online resources to get questions answered; excellent forums with helpful users; numerous add on that enhance program (Stacks is awesome!); can customize templates

    Cons

Can be a tad tricky in getting it to publish directly; must purchase templates if the ones that come with RW are not what you like; can't work with a Windows machine (this could be considered a pro)

    Summary

As a person who was self-taught HTML and has hacked together some websites that looked "OK" but were not special, I found RapidWeaver (RW) to be a great program for MAC users. It was simple enough that one could play around and in a few days get the hang of it quickly.

I found that purchasing the add-on named "STACKS" was a must. From there, one could also purchase for $5 the "MP3 Audio Stack" for music related websites. The money is well spent. It was easy to add these plug-ins and they give much more flexibility.

The ability to know HTML helps in allowing it to be added directly through the proper boxes in the program. Embedding other sites is a snap. Learning that you can look at the "page info" box and then set your files so they are not just called "page 1" is helpful to learn after the fact. This cleaned up my site quickly and kept things in folders.

Basically, play with it for a few days. Build a site. Test it out. Tweak it. And then go live. Adding content is simple and easy. Click the "publish" tab and you can update without leaving RW. You can export RW to a folder and use the program named FETCH to ftp your files as an alternative.

As a MAC user, I am upset that I did not learn about RW earlier. Get it now!

"Easy of use once you see how the pages work"

    May 20, 2009  |   By jonbooker

    Version: RapidWeaver 4.2.3

    Pros

I have been using RW since it first came out and am very please with each new upgrade. The software is a great value and you can add additional features from several online developers including Yourhead.com and Blueballl.com.

    Cons

You are limited in many simple features and are forced to you HTML that is not easy to use in the program. The themes are not flexible, but third party vendors help with this problem.

    Summary

A great value in software that can be used by beginners and experiences website developers. You should view the online videos to help you get started with RW. They will save a great deal of time. Be careful about using the Photo page. It is very limited and requires a great deal of additional work on your part to get even the most simple display looking the way you want it.

"I am still on the trial proccess"

    May 14, 2009  |   By Ot Manu

    Version: RapidWeaver 4.2.2

    Pros

Seems to definitively abbreviate a site construction on a Mac. Hope it could also fix my illiteracy on these topics. Dreamweaver is by far a lot more complex to work out..

    Cons

    My inexperience really counts.

    "Each new version gets better!"

    December 3, 2008  |   By jonbooker

    Version: RapidWeaver 4.2.1

    Pros

I have been using RapidWeaver since version 1.0. It is wonderful piece of software that lets you create a professional looking website is a relatively short period of time. It is relatively easy to learn, and has great online tutorials.

    Cons

Changing the look and feel of themes can be difficult for the beginner. The documentation is not very helpful.

    Summary

If you are a Mac user and looking for an easy way to develop and upload a website, RapidWeaver is for you. Learning beyond the basics can be time consuming because of the poor documentation. This software is not for the professional developer, but for most of us it is just fine. There is a great selection of themes and many more are available from third parties. I especially like the add-on from YourHead software. There is no comparable software for the PC. I mastered Dreamweaver for the PC but found it difficult to use. It is very powerful but the learning-curve is just too steep. I have Dreamweaver for the Mac but rarely use it since finding RapidWeaver. I think you will find the software a real bargain. Download and try it from free to make your own evaluation.

    "Buggy as hell"

Users that are considering RapidWeaver for their blog beware. This part of RW is buggy as hell. And the so-called support forum isn't much of a help either. It's a plain waste of time.

    "Excellent Program"

    November 3, 2008  |   By obryanlaw

    Version: RapidWeaver 4.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Rapidweaver is a terrific program for website creation and maintenance. If you need something more robust for websites than iWeb -- but don't have the time or need to master Dreamweaver -- then Rapidweaver would be a great choice.

It is a stable application that is intuitive and continues to evolve.

We maintain a law firm website that is about 20 pages. We are always complimented on our site -- and have only Rapidweaver to thank.

    "Crashes"

    September 1, 2008  |   By Roberto Bos

    Version: RapidWeaver 4.1.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
A wonderful program, if it wouldn't crash all the time. It crashes when I save, crashes when I open a file, crashes just anytime. Again and again. That started with version 4.1.1 and continues in 4.1.3.

The advice on the forum etc. is to deactivate all plugins. But how useful is RW without plugins?

"Easy to use for the beginner web page designer"

    August 14, 2008  |   By jsn.moloney

    Version: RapidWeaver 4.0.1

    Pros

all the themes are pre-set and you can download more from the parent website which eliminates the need for design.

    Cons

Pre-formating can cause issues, its best to do all work in the program rather than in word and coy across
