Limited in scope but surprisingly powerful, Random Word Generator does exactly what you'd think. Given a word length, a list of characters, and other parameters (or not, as you prefer), it quickly generates a long list of real or nonsense words. And why would the average person want to do that? Mostly for generating passwords that are memorable but still relatively secure.

At first glance, the interface seems confusing, but most users shouldn't have a problem getting up to speed within a few minutes. We also were glad to find Random Word Generator offers a number of attractive skins for gussying up the main window's look. When we asked the program to display a list of random words, it returned such tongue twisters as haglipent, sutriging, tatralycs, stenong, grerogra, and whimalle. You can choose the order and number of consonants and verbs or have the program build nonsense words based on real ones. For instance, typing in barbecue resulted in words such as derbecue, boblecue, birbecuy, barbehoa, and barbelue.

The app also can generate all possible combinations from a specified list of letters. Though it clearly has a great deal of novelty value, Random Word Generator also can serve a practical purpose for those who need an unguessable--though by no means unhackable--password.

Random Word Generator creates lists of random, artificial words. Other features: customizable word construction engine, generate many words into a file, generate words similar to others, generate all possible words from a given format, and anagram finder. Version 12.2 includes unspecified updates.
