"A LifeSaver-Great Tool"
Version: RKill build 4
Pros
Once again, my computer has been saved from total destruction by Bleeping Computer. I was invaded by an especially nasty System Check trojan yesterday (bundled with a few other nasties) and was able to clean my completely hijacked system with the help of RKill. The trojan had disabled pretty much everything in my system that could have helped me and RKill let me regain control. Finally tonight, I am malware free again! I can't believe the negative posts. There is nothing on Bleeping Computer's site that could be classified as malware; quite the opposite. These people are saints. I can't believe they will spend so much time and effort helping people like me attempt to rid ourselves of the messes installed on our computers by scam artists and expect nothing in return.
Cons
None-I did not experience the possible false positive (fully disclosed when downloading the tool) of my Antivirus software detecting RKill as malware.
Summary
I highly recommend the RKill tool anytime Bleeping Computer suggests it to help remove malware (or anything else they recommend for that matter!!!). It is the first site I go to whenever I have computer issues.

"One of those tools you wonder how you lived without"
Version: RKill build 4
Pros
Works every time
Even detects unknown or unwanted proxys
Great for shutting down malware so you can remove itCons
none for me
Summary
Do not listen to the other people who are saying this software is malicious or a virus. I am an IT professional who owns my own business and have been in business for over 10 years. And this tool (as well as Combofix, who is also from the same developer) is one of the most essential tools to have to aid in removing stubborn malware.

"Does exactly what it says it's supposed to."
Version: RKill build 4
Pros
Kills malicious processes in memory, so that you can begin to clean your computer with a conventional scanner/cleaner tool.
Cons
Does not scan for or clean malware on disk, BUT IT'S NOT INTENDED TO! Just "doesn't work" about 2% of the time, but that's really about the only "con" I can think of.
Summary
As an IT consultant, implementer, and help-desk technician, RKill is one tool I always keep on hand and up to date. Note that this is NOT a malware/spyware cleanup tool! It is only intended to kill "open" malware processes whose purpose is self-defense and resuscitation in the CURRENT BOOT CYCLE.
It is merely intended to be the "first tool" you touch, allowing you to then proceed to install and utilize other scanner tools such as MalwareBytes, ComboFix, and others to actually clean up the problem. It is not intended to compete with these products, only to supplement them.
That said, it does exactly what it is supposed to: it enables me to use a scanner/cleaner without malware killing it before I can get it installed.
Not sure about some of the other reviews that say it distributes malware or disables virus scanners---I've used RKill on probably 200+ systems all over the map in the past year and in virtually all cases it allows me to proceed with a cleanup and functions exactly as intended. When it "doesn't work" it causes no damage--a simple reboot and everything is exactly the way it was--but honestly, that's the 2%. 98% of the time it works perfectly.
Excellent tool. Keep up the good fight! -
"A Great Tool for you arsenal!"
Version: RKill build 4
Pros
This tool is great to have to aid in your malware removal. It will in most cases stop the malware processes. Then you can run other tools to eliminate the malware. Don't be scared if it is sometimes detected as a Trojan. This is because of how the tool works.
Cons
It some time get picked up as a Trojan. This is a false positive.
Summary
This is a proven tool that I have been using since it conception. It is in no way harmful or destructive to your computer.

"Looks malware makers try to bash a legit tool"
Version: RKill build 4
Pros
I see a few peoples who have tried to bash RKill. Are they different persons who belong to the same malware maker team or there is only one person who has created different accounts?
I notice they have no fact to mentions other than AVG flagging RKill as malware. AGV is not flagging RKill as Trojan, if it would, it would have made AVG a questionable antivirus that goes after legit tools.
What else they claim? A lot, but with no mention of any solid fact.
In essence they implicate that CNET is advocating a malware tool, I hope the people at CNET understand the implication.
What do they want to achieve? I can only guess they would like to infect people with their rogue antivirus, hijack the system , ask the victims money and leave them infected after they paid. They don't like RKill to come in between and ruin their party.
I have just one word for those "cyber psychopaths": Go and make a malware that the malware removal tools can't handle and don't waste our time like this.Cons
Nothing. If it will not help, it will not harm.
Summary
Malware makers are one step ahead of us, but we kick their ... from behind.

"This thing is a Godsend!"
Version: RKill build 4
Pros
Bleepingcomputer.com has different 'versions' of it which is the same program under different file names in case a malware program stops one you can try another.
Cons
None really.
Summary
Do not listen the two Malware-Advocates..
I work Part time as a computer repair person, and many times I get customers who have fallen for programs such as 'System Fix', 'Windows Anti-Virus 2011', 'Double My speed' and all these other so called 'PC Optimizers.' These are all malware, which plague most of the computers I see.
RKill stops these process and I can run my Anti-Malware of choice, Malware Bytes.
Overall this is a 5 star program for me, as it makes my job a lot easier than just having to wipe and restore a customers computer. -
"Does the job."
Version: RKill build 4
Pros
Stops Malware from running so my antvirus and malware removal tools can work without interference.
Cons
Can't think of any.
Summary
I download the program and burn it to disk so it can be used on other infected computers.

"It got my computer back for me!!"
Version: RKill build 4
Pros
I was finally able to downlaod RKill.exe onto my DESKTOP & run it (the virus would not let me download to my SYSTEM, but for some reason I was able to download to my DESKTOP). After running RKill.exe (in SAFE mode), I had access to my computer & was able to run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro and my anti-virus program.
Before we found RKill (using my husband's computer) I could not access ANY program on my computer. One minute, everything was fine & then I downloaded an Adobe Reader update. Immediately I started getting messages telling me that my computer is infected.
I had run my anti-malware & anti-virus programs about 1 hour earlier and everything was OK, so I didn't believe what my computer/the virus was telling me, & I didn't do what it was telling me to do!!
Without RKill.exe, I would not have a working computer today. This occurred on Christmas Day, so I would have been "dead-in-the-water" if we hadn't found RKill.
It was a real life-saver!!Cons
The only CON that I can think of is that nothing told us to download RKill to my DESKTOP. If I'd known to do this when I first tried to download it, I'd have been able to get my computer up and have run my Malwarebytes Anti-malware Pro program much faster and with much less aggravation and stress.
Summary
This is truly a wonderful program. Every computer should have it on its desktop.

"Does exactly what it says!"
Version: RKill build 4
Pros
Does exactly what it says!
Cons
maybe not enough indication that it is really working
-
"Worked great for me"
Version: RKill build 4
Pros
It did what it was supposed to do - deactivate the Trojan allowing me to use anti-malware to remove it
Cons
Not really a con, but it would be nice to incorporate a malware removal program, or incorporate RKill into such a program
Summary
I just recovered from a nasty infection by System Fix that got by AVG. Biggest problem I had was in booting up, as nothing worked, but by diligence I finally got booted into protected mode. After that, I ran RKill from a USB thumb drive, then was able to get on-line and download a trial copy of EMSISOFT anti-malware. That did a trick, but I also had to use CCleaner and also go into the Control Panel and un-hide all of the files which were hidden by System Fix. Then I did a system restore.
