"Do Not Buy! Very poor interface."

    October 01, 2013   |   By CorpITadmin

    Version: RBackup Remote Backup 8.5

    Pros

Couple good techs, I feel sorry for them.

    Cons

No centralized admin page. No automated client install, in fact you have to create the installer. No status indicators, you have to review dozens of log file to see what is going on if you can even tell. Will not complete backups in a reasonable time frame if you have a large data set. Might work on small deployments (under 100GB) but not medium to large, and then you will live in log files if you want to see any status. Wasn't able to run as a service, so now looking at task scheduler to automate, then you can't even open the client unless logged in as that service account. We were duped.

    Summary

Don't buy into the millions sold mantra, that probably only because of how long this has been on the market. Not because of the product, while it may do what it needs to on the back end the software need a complete redo so users can actually interface with it. How can you have faith if you can't monitor it without looking all over the place at log files? Even then it tells you what was logged not what is currently happening. Even with the problems that other vendors have, Vembu, 3x, etc, I would take them over this any day.

    "Kludgy software. Move along."

    October 01, 2007   |   By speerfissure

    Version: RBackup Remote Backup 8.5

    Pros

Nothing to see here. This software has no positive attributes that I could find.

    Cons

This software has been around to long without a complete rewrite. Sure, these guys have been in business a long time, so has Microsoft and you see how buggy they can be even with teams of programmers. This software is a bunch of small utilities which have been kludged together and called an application. We tried the software and it was difficult to setup, the documentation is attrocious: most of it is dated and not current with the latest release, simple answer to questions are hard to get answer for, misspellings are rampant, and you get conflicting answers from the staff of RBS.

I even called one night and a young lady answered. She kept making this blowing noise in the phone and I recognized the sound from smokers who exhale loudly. I asked her if she was smoking and she said, "Yeah, my dad owns the company, so we pretty much do what we want around here. There's only a couple of us here and everyone smokes, so it's no big deal."

She then went on to tell me things that later turned out not to be true, trying to make the sale it seemed to me.

Good luck with this software. Two thumbs down for me.

"Poor feature set, ridiculous price, move along, nothing here"

    June 15, 2006   |   By old_it_worker

    Version: RBackup Remote Backup 8.5

    Pros

Absolutely nothing (I am being 100% serious)

    Cons

Where do I start? Terrible interface, looks like it was designed around 1985. Only works with Windows. But the real catcher... these people want $500 for this software when other companies are far more reasonable. Feel sorry for anyone that bites on this.

"My customers love this online backup, and I'm making money with it."

    October 10, 2005   |   By JeffM

    Version: RBackup Remote Backup 8.5

    Pros

I switched to RBackup from another application which was more expensive and a LOT of trouble, and just didn't work. RBackup is REALLY easy to install and configure. Even my ISP customers can do it by themselves. Online backup restores and backups are automatic. No problems. Tech support is GREAT at RBS. I'm retaining customers at a much higher rate offering online backup as a competetive edge, even over cheaper ISPs in my market who don't offer it. Buy RBackup. Save yourself a lot of time and just stop looking for something else. This is it.

    Cons

I'm thinking... There's not much wrong with it. Maybe if it were free, that would be better.

"A good all-around package with many unique features"

    May 17, 2005   |   By teigeman

    Version: RBackup Remote Backup 8.5

    Pros

Good, clean client and server interface, tweak-able settings on a per-client basis for compression, encryption, retention, etc. Good Server management interface. Heck, they even permit you branding the product as your own. In my tests of several products over a few weeks, this software came out the clear choice.

    Cons

ummm.... I wish it were a bit cheaper, but I found that you get what you pay for when it comes to commercial-grade software.

"I was extremely frustrated with the product."

    April 14, 2005   |   By dfelder

    Version: RBackup Remote Backup 8.5

    Pros

    Friendly tech support.

    Cons

After spending countless hours I couldn't make the software work reliably. Even with tech support's assistance, the software continued to surprise me with new quirks. Backups have to work reliably or they're completely useless. I was forced to switch to tape.
