"Very very bad software"
Version: RAR Password Cracker 4.12
Pros
It is such a bad software that it does not have any pros........
Cons
The program crashes all the time. The free version only allows cracking codes up-to 3-digit, and I dont think people nowadays give a password of three letters.......damn software.................Never make the mistake of downloading or installing it.
Summary
I dont know how the editor gave it a full rating. This is just a waste of your time if you download and install it. Take my advice and don't ever download it. I don't know how a reputed website like this would do such a mistake of putting this junk in here.

"It couldn't recover the password"
Version: RAR Password Cracker 4.12
Pros
A possibility to stop and continue later
Cons
It's slow - 50 tries per second on 2.2 Ghz processor? It's obsolete, the latest version is from 2003. And it's not working...
Summary
I've bought the time-limited version for $10 and ran it for a week to recover a lost password - then it reported, that the password has been found. It was a lie, the found password didn't fit. Please - don't try it, don't buy it, don't touch it...

Cons

Summary
dont waste your time.

"Rubbish piece of software"
Version: RAR Password Cracker 4.12
Pros
This program has none
Cons
Evaluation version only lets you try up to 3 letter passwords
User interface is utterly bewildering and non-intuitive
Would be quicker for a 3 letter password to just try them all yourselfSummary
I could have built a better RAR password cracker using Lego.

"Complicated software to use for a simple task"
Version: RAR Password Cracker 4.12
Pros
It promised to crack - if you can use it.
Cons
Just to crack a rar file, you have to create a project, select a dictionary/library. It's like learning how to use Photoshop for just to crop an image from your digital camera.
Summary
Find another software.

"DO NOT buy it! waste of cash!"
Version: RAR Password Cracker 4.12
Pros
- practical for stupid people who use 1-5 charecter long passwords!
Cons
-if the archive is rar 3.xx, it will take a hell of a long time to crack eaven a 4 char password.
I am doing an experement, i am using a 4 char password with i number and 3 lowercase latin letters. it will take over 16 hrs to crack on my pc.Summary
Good if you have a 12 tflop supercomputer laying about in the attic.
Good if you use a short and very non complex password.
Comparison from 3.xx and 2.xx
A 2.xx archive will be cracked away at over 6000 passwords per second.
A 3.xx archive's passwords are encrypted and rar cracker will only try 20-40 passwords per second max.
DO not buy this! I got it for free but it wasn't legal. Exuse my spellings, i canot be bothered to spell check this as i am in a hurry. -
"NO WAY IM GIVING PROS TO THIS"
Version: RAR Password Cracker 4.12
Pros
a fail program
Cons
CRASHES. SLOW. CAN ONLY CRACK 3 LETTER PASSWORDS
Summary
REALLY? USE 3 HOURS TO CRACK 3 LETTER PASSWORD.. 1 WHO MAKES IPASSWORD SO SMALL. 2 THERE IS ABOUT 30 KEYS ON YOUR KEYBOARD YOU CAN MAKE A PASSWORD WITH. IF YOU CANT DO IT YUORSELF FAIL
"sorry to say this is my lowest rating ever. and it is still to much :(" -
"All the one-star reviews are correct"
Version: RAR Password Cracker 4.12
Pros
It's small.
Cons
Where to start? No dictionary file included, so you can't run it. You have to pay $30 just for that text file! 3-character limit on demo version (even though you can't run it). Amateurish interface.
Summary
Doesn't work, period. Who uses 3-character passwords on files they wish to make SECURE? I can't believe that CNET gave this piece of crap 5 stars!! Just read the user reviews for the real story. CNET needs to fire the reviewer or stop excepting payment from the software writers in exchange for hosting the files and the good reviews.

"It works... mostly."
Version: RAR Password Cracker 4.12
Pros
It has successfully recovered several passwords for me. The wizard for telling it what file to crack and how (dictionary/brute-force) is intuitive.
Cons
Would be faster if multi-threaded; sometimes thinks it found a working password, and no way to tell it to start at the next brute force attempt; sometimes crashes with certain file/password combos, and no way to tell it where to restart from
Summary
Occasional success may or may not be worth the money to you; a multi-threaded update is definitely desired (with a config option to specify the number of threads to run); the ability to have it skip a (false-positive/crashing) password would add a lot more utility, and probably result in a lot more successes (this would be easy if the status was written to an XML file like the 'rarcrack' utility for Linux)

"crashed, possible virus"
Version: RAR Password Cracker 4.12
Pros
installation worked.
Cons
Something is wrong with this program. It could be a virus that got past the scan.
Summary
I scanned this file with AVG, and it didn't find anything.
So after pushing the button to start cracking, the program crashed, and then firefox.exe was at 100% cpu. When the WinXP dialog box asked me to send a report, I clicked send debug info. The report back from Microsoft said "Remove the RPC Virus from PC"!!! I am very concerned.
Here is the proof:
