"Ease of use good, but more configuration options needed"
Version: Quiz Press 2.4.7
Pros
? You can use it right away.
? Easy to post on the Web (a must)
? Easy to add media files to test questions
? Provides a variety of test formatsCons
? Can't control order in which answers appear (in addition to random).
? Preferences should take affect immediately.
? Let test maker add logo and configure placement of time, score, font size, etc.
? Buggy display when going to next question?shifts.Summary
Ease of use is good and it's okay for a basic product, and kudos for making it easy to publish on the Web.
However, the speed of displaying the next page needs to improved, it shifts to the right, hesitates in half-page mode, then refreshes. This would be extremely distracting for a nervous student taking a timed test.
Quiz Press needs more options for configuring the look of the pages (background, adding a company or school logo, font size, placement of info on results page, addition of custom messages from the testmaker to the student, etc.). I'd happily buy it if it were improved.
I tried many test-makers for the Web and I was surprised at how "neophyte" they all were in concept and design. I consider this one of the better ones, even though it's somewhat limited, for its out-of-the-box ease of use and the fact that you can post the quizzes on the Web on your own site and don't have to rely on a third-party-hosted server.
The developer should make the page display configuration options more powerful. If this vendor doesn't add better options for control of the HTML output, there's an opportunity for a competing developer to create something more configurable, perhaps by adding an HTML template page with variables for size, color, background, etc., that can be translated by the software into the final quiz.
I was almost ready to buy this sight-unseen based on the product description, but have decided to wait to see if the page display speed is improved, and display configuration options are added. -
"Potentially Good, But Falls Way Short"
Version: Quiz Press 1.8.2

Same problem that everyone else mentioned. People get a grade after taking the test, but they have no idea what they answered right or wrong. How does that help anyone? When I emailed the developer, he was defensive. Something about he cannot promise anything. The company does create nice programs, like the crossword puzzle software. However, this Quiz Press looks like a half-hearted effort. I would have bought a replacement if I knew of one. -
"Standalone Quizmakers are Dead"
Version: Quiz Press 1.7.4

Quizzes are only one part of a learning website. Complete learning management systems (LMS) such as Moodle, Dekeos, Blackboard, etc. provide a full range of learning activities and learner management records. They need a good, fast quiz making tool to add lots of quizzes without a complicated procedure. Quiz Press could provide this but unfortunately does not provide integration. Until it does, it will fill a vanishing niche. -
"Good for the price, but"
Version: Quiz Press 1.7.1
Summary

I can only use it for practice tests. It is great for those, but what it must have for me to use it for scored tests is a feature that tells me and the student the specific questions that were incorrectly answered. It could conform to what are referred to as "best practices" in education. The developer could easily double the price at that point and I would be very happy.
Would also like the option to add essay questions that would be unscored by the application. I could then have all the current test types, scored by the application, with reporting of incorrect answers , as well as a portion of the test (essay) that I would score manually. At that point, I'd gladly pay $100 or more for it.
