"Went back to free 2010 Microsoft Money Plus Sunset"

    February 13, 2015  |   By oommma4eva

    Version: Quicken Deluxe 2015

    Pros

    No adequate competition.

    Cons

Doesn't get the simple things right. If accounting software can't get the right account balance when displaying only unreconciled transactions it's useless.

    Summary

In 2010 I switched to Quicken because Microsoft Money was going away. Now after 5 years of making do I've downloaded the Sunset version of Microsoft Money, manually re-established my accounts and going backwards to get what works for me. Even with all the things it doesn't have ... No online services (no online quotes, no bill payment, no statement downloads initiated by Money, no data sync with MSN Money online services, etc?) ยท No support services (support services are limited to online self-help only ... it works better for me than Quicken!

    "I regret this purchase."

    February 8, 2015  |   By suebee29

    Version: Quicken Deluxe 2015

    Pros

I know the product after so many years of use.

    Cons

Every year I seem to have the same issues changing from one year to the next. When I archive the prior year, my current balances are off by a lot of money. The sync feature constantly has to be reset. Now the sync works, but the auto close that used to work with it does not. It is just too frustrating to deal with each and every time.

    Summary

This has to be my last purchase. If I ever get it set up right I am never getting another. I will wait until another product comes out.

    "2015 Quicken is Unusable"

    February 2, 2015  |   By neilhmurphy

    Version: Quicken Deluxe 2015

    Pros

I've been a long time user of Quicken, but I stopped getting new versions after 2001. Quicken only got worse.

    Cons

Unless you are willing to endure phone or chat support, welcome to the cold.

    Summary

I downloaded Quicken 2004 it got hung up (that's all I can tell you). I restarted it and it tried to "help" me. After struggling with it I finally got my 2001 data converted. I would suggest an option: Manual (Advanced Users) . The following day I tried to install 2015. Toward the end it asked me to establish a userid and password, OK. Now let me point some things out. I use a browser based password manager, RoboForm, so it was going to be a challenge to get this info into RoboForm. I would guess that the reason for doing this was so I could download data from financial sites. As they say in math the chance of me doing this is vanishingly small. The came a second screen which asked me to establish an Intuit userid and password. Which I tried to do, but it rejected it saying it was "Invalid ..." No explanation! It suggested that I call customer service. Now it is my belief that corporations view telephones as instruments with which to torture their customers. There was also a "Forgot Password" button, but why should I click it? Since the error message gave no hint as to why my choices were INVALID clicking the button would constitute playing guessing games with a computer, a very silly pastime in my book. Now it may be that in 1995 I established a userid with Intuit. Who cares!? I closed the program and restarted it. It restarted on the first userid and password page having discarded the info I had already provided. Since I can't get by this nonsense I can't install 2015. Since 2015 is unusable I returned it. So congratulate whoever made these decisions. Not only have they discouraged me from trying to install Quicken but I expect to encounter the same nonsense from any Intuit product.

    "HORRIBLE banking tool!!"

    January 26, 2015  |   By trulltalk

    Version: Quicken Deluxe 2015

    Pros

Online updates that don't update correctly
    Online support that is non-existent
Downloads that don't match the files on your computer

    Cons

Last week I downloaded Quicken to my new computer. I had stopped using it about a little over a year ago because of download/matching issues. I thought I would start this year out getting back to Quicken because I used the product for 20 years and loved it. Last week however - after downloading one of my bank's acct I noticed the online and ending balances didn't match. I deleted the file and reloaded that acct again. That download balanced to the online balance so I thought I was good. This morning I updated that account. It is now over $1400 out of balance with just 3 updated line items. I don't know what you've done to this product the Quicken I used for 20 years w/o issue is NOT the product I have now. Today, I dread using Quicken. I'd rather use a spreadsheet than have to repeat what I've already done - THREE TIMES! This makes no sense to me.

    Summary

I used to think there were TONS of pros to this product. In fact I used it for 20 years and loved it. I sure can't say that now!! WAY too many bugs that have been on-going issues w/o resolution. I'm looking for another product now to do my online balancing and reconciliation. THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT THE TOOL!

"Bugs and flaws hobble this (R3 of Premier version)."

    January 18, 2015  |   By jgharris7

    Version: Quicken Deluxe 2015

    Pros

---Has online transaction download for most financial institutions.
    ---recent addition--Morningstar portfolio updates.
    ---useful reporting and reconciling features.

    Cons

---Multiple bugs, some in core features related to automated download. Upgrading from 2012 to 2015 will cause you to waste a lot of time.
---Awkard slow, flashy interface for some features, such as reordering accounts in lists.

    Summary

I've upgraded from 2012. This version has more institutions with automatic transaction downloads and an interface to Morningstar. Unfortunately the automated transaction download is hobbled by multiple bugs that have required manual workarounds. If you have a variety of account types from different financial institutions, expect that working around these bugs will cost you significant time if you update to Quicken 2015.

I've used Quicken for over 15 years. It has many extremely useful features--automated transaction downloads from most major institutions, ease of getting reports and account balances, and a reconciliation tool.

The overall features--if they worked more flawlessly and had more ways of working around bugs and changes---would get it five stars. It is dropped to two due to some severe bugs without convenient workarounds--namely the ability to easily do mass imports and corrections and easily merge accounts into a single account.

In the most major bug, I set up my Everbank accounts for automated transaction download (previously only one of them was on the manual web-connect download). The system renamed one of my Everbank accounts and deleted another. Unfortunately I found out about the deletion after making a bunch of manual entries to update another account. Make sure you backup your file before changing your online downloads!

A second pattern is that Quicken's online download will miss transactions for no reason. There is a workaround for this--you can reset the "starting date" for the account if this persists; however if you don't notice this problem in time you may have to manually track down and update the transactions. Also having to hunt down and execute a workaround is a unacceptable. This has happened involving both a brokerage account and a bank with savings and checking accounts.

With yet a fourth institution, it stopped downloading my credit card transactions and instead had an error message. Trying to "reset" the online setup using Quicken's instructions provided by the error handling popups caused Quicken to freeze until I killed it with task manager. I tried the "reset" multiple times; each time Quicken froze and had to be killed. Finally, I was able to restore the automated download by deactivating and reactivating the online download for the account. This will cause both already cleared and reconciled as well as new positions to be downloaded; get ready for more manual cleanup work.

Another annoyance is that Quicken provides no way of recovering individual account information from a backup or other source and importing into bank or brokerage accounts. You can export account transactions and import them into an asset account and try a "mass copy" into a bank account.

The Morningstar interface is useful; however it would be more useful if it showed you dollar values.

    "Horrible, horrible, horrible"

    January 15, 2015  |   By sweetbabylee2

    Version: Quicken Deluxe 2015

    Pros

The best of its category out there and it sucks.

    Cons

    Slow.
Budget data and reports run from the budgets do not match.
    Slow.
    Did I mention slow?

    Summary

Have used Quicken for close to 20 years. Have never seen a program that continued to degrade through the years as compared to improve and become innovative. The only major improvements I've seen in the past 10 years would possibly be the color schemes. Sad.
    Oh, and it's slow.

"Problems encountered requiring return to previous vers"

    January 8, 2015  |

    Version: Quicken Deluxe 2015

    Pros

    None I could discover

    Cons

    1) Cannot resize window which takes up half of the screen (major problem for me).
    2) Unicode language message which I could not resolve.
    3) After install, open and close could not reopen without converting old file again
    4) Could not see how to avoid initial budgeting type screen which I have no need for.

    Summary

Do not buy this product unless windows resize problem not an issue.

"Updates fixed few bugs and created more bugs"

    December 30, 2014  |

    Version: Quicken Deluxe 2015

    Pros

Slightly faster than the previous version.
    Credit score.

    Cons

Bugs after bugs. In some account pages, I even cannot see the holdings. Most part is black in some pages.

    Summary

Intuit prematurely put the 2015 version on market. Don't buy it now since it will change the format of the file and you cannot go back to earlier version.
