"Run Away From 2015 Cash Manager Canada!"

    July 23, 2015  |   By WebClient

    Version: Quicken Deluxe 2015

    Pros

I am still searching for a pro that made the forced upgrade worthwhile.

    Cons

    1. Horribly slow to start.
    2. Horribly slow when entering transactions.
    3. Data Conversion is a disaster.
    4. Poor technical support that looks to blame operating system more than finding solutions for its own product.

    Summary

The 2015 Cash Manager Canada version feels more like a forced cash-grab that an improved cash manager program. It is so sluggish at times, it forces you to do other tasks and becomes forgettable. This product should have never made it to market based on my current experience with it. Save your money and save your sanity.

    "Can Quicken Deteriorate Any Further?"

    July 22, 2015  |   By MarkerDeltaOne

    Version: Quicken Deluxe 2015

    Pros

It represents a new standard in how terrible a once useful program can become.

    Cons

Frequently fails to start or starts to a blank screen
    Fails to correctly calculate balances
Refuses to accept password that was created at its demand only moments before
When you can get it to start it frequently crashes and takes your newly entered work with it

    Summary

I note that the CNET review is of the 2010 version. I have used Quicken for well over 20 years and come to rely on it. I enter all of my transactions by hand since I have never found the download features of Quicken to be reliable or as easy to use and they should be. Every time I used them I had to do so much editing that I always reverted to manual entry. But enough of the past.

My last purchase of Quicken was the 2011 version so I decided to see if there was anything new in 2015. For the most part there is nothing new that I could find except for a couple of dramatic developments: it frequently fails to start or starts to a blank screen. When you can get it to start, the balances only occasionally calculate correctly.

Being an optimistic type, I stuck with it for almost two months. When I could not get it to start I just uninstalled and reinstalled. (I uninstalled using both the recommended Quicken uninstall tool and Revo so I am relatively sure that short of a clean install of Windows there were no traces left to interfere with the new installs.) By doing that I was able to get it to run once or twice. Finally, I gave up and took it back just a day or two before the 60-day return period expired.

I have also used TurboTax for over 20 years and been pleased with its performance. However, given my experience with Quicken 2015 I will be using something else for 2015.

    "Very Buggy"

    July 21, 2015  |   By JonCatskill

    Version: Quicken Deluxe 2015

    Pros

Transfers files from earlier versions without issues

    Cons

Buggy, I've had this version for about 6 months and it seems I have to re-establish online connections everyday, not the same one it's a different account every time. They have a fix feature but it doesn't work so I do it manually. When it looses the connection you also have the option to retry but that only locks up the application and I have to reboot my pc to get past it and then reestablish the connection.

Another problem I've had about a month ago it told me I had splits that had never been applied They were off by date and time so i didn't want to apply them so I cancelled thinking they would go away, WRONG! There doesn't seem to be any way to get rid of them but to accept but then my accounts will be all off so you have to go in and delete them. They then reappear the next time you run a "One Step Update".
You also can't split your accounts into different files. When my son turned 18 I wanted to separate out his savings/brokerage accounts into a new file. No can do.

    Summary

Buggy! No way to export individual accounts into a new quicken file. Making a copy and deleting individual accounts but you wind up with all these hanging stuff you just can't get delete everything. You can export to a CSV file but good luck mapping all the fields.

Keep loosing connections to online financial accounts.

Can't seem to get rid of bogus stock split information.

If I didn't have 10 years + of financial information in there I'd use something else, but while this is bad the other options are worse.

Help desk is useless all I've ever gotten was this is a know issue and we'll let you know if we ever decide to fix it. Can
t wait to see what new "IMPROVEMENTS" They come up with next!

"Does Quicken sell chain saws or software?"

    July 11, 2015  |   By rubmop

    Version: Quicken Deluxe 2015

    Pros

2015 is so frustrating to use , I just quit trying and go fishing.

    Cons

They think Support is women's clothing. They only allow three words to submit a problem before not answering it. I have three words for them.

    Summary

If you are just starting out with financial software,DO NOT buy Quicken. I have been with them for over ten years and can't find a way to safely migrate all my records elsewhere.

    "Do not buy this software"

    May 23, 2015  |   By adammari

    Version: Quicken Deluxe 2015

    Pros

Nothing great if you can't even access the software

    Cons

Company released a patch that broke their own software requiring customers to enter a password they never set on their data file. This resulted in loss of money and hours of time trying to troubleshoot to no solve. Meanwhile we are supposed to simply wait on a patch fix with no date provided.

"OMG, another forced upgrade for a very useful program"

    May 12, 2015  |   By JustOrdinaryUser

    Version: Quicken Deluxe 2015

    Pros

Like I said, it's a very useful program.

    Cons

    The bad stuff:
    1) Every couple of years you must upgrade (read purchase a complete new software package) or you'll loose some very useful feature.
    2) The installation claims that it won't damage anything. WRONG! It destroys the connections to your banking institutions and you're clueless as to how to proceed.
    3) Two hours later after online chatting with tech-support the bank connectivity is restored. BUT, wait, there are multiple duplicate records transferred into my Quicken register. Sorry says tech support, you'll have to purge those entries manually. Oh, gee, just what I wanted to do.

    Summary

Very useful program, the upgrade policy is Draconian, funky stuff happens during upgrades and this guarantees jobs for tech support chat persons and plenty of frustration for you, the user.

"More bugs than 2012, but now has mobile support"

    May 9, 2015  |   By linkmaster40

    Version: Quicken Deluxe 2015

    Pros

    - Mobile support syncs to Quicken cloud which I can see on my Android Quicken phone app. Refreshing mobile or desktop version also gets latest from banks/credit cards.
    - Phone app is free & is similar to the Mint app, which I was using before.
    - Same features I liked in 2012 such as reports, budget, bill reminders, & bank syncing.

    Cons

    - Upgrade process from 2012 ran into some issues including freezing that I finally overcame.
    - Today after using for a couple of months it asked me for a password to open my file which I have never set. My vault password did not work for it so I had to restore to a file from about 2 weeks ago, losing everything I've done since then (I update my accounts every few days). This happened despite using it the night before w/o a password.
    - Last update failed & required research on my part to find a manual workaround.
    - Sometimes entering bank transactions freezes the application requiring me to kill it in Task Manager.
    - It recently had trouble connecting to my bank account, requiring me to redo the online bank setup. This then caused the phone app to lose my bank account as well.
    - Many times after reconciling w/ my bank it says I am out balance & it is due to a pending transaction. So it knows about it but doesn't download it.

    Summary

I like the new mobile support as it has made life much easier for staying on top of my balances when on the go & away from my PC (I used to remote desktop to my PC to see Quicken & this has eliminated the need). When it works it is a great application, but when it fails it can be quite frustrating, even for an IT Pro like me.

    "Freezes during bank transaction downloads"

    May 3, 2015  |   By FredGrodins

    Version: Quicken Deluxe 2015

    Pros

    Cute user interface

    Cons

    Freezes during bank transaction downloads
    Difficult to uninstall
    Feature bloat
    Expensive, ineffective tech support
Only manual software update work reliably

    Summary

Once a very good product, Quicken has gone down hill. Transaction downloads from bank accounts freeze often. Periodic automatic software updates don't work well. User Community forums are full of problems but effective solutions are rare.

    "I hate the forced upgrades"

    April 23, 2015  |   By AGuy_justaguy

    Version: Quicken Deluxe 2015

    Pros

    I don't know. It's probably not spyware?

    Cons

Every 3-4 years it stops downloading data from your bank to force you to buy, not an upgrade, but a full version.
And the user interface is insanely confusing. Lots of strange little corners work nothing like a typical Windows program. It feels like a Mac OS9 app ported to Linux, ported to DOS ported to Windows. Klunky.

"Forced to upgrade; Shortcut keys are shot."

    April 2, 2015  |   By palanquin

    Version: Quicken Deluxe 2015

    Pros

It syncs with my bank as well as my broker.
    Helps organize taxes.
Provides reports and graphs to help you assess and control your finances.
    .

    Cons

    1. Shortcut keys no longer work properly. This is a shame for all serious Quicken users who are accustomed to navigating and utilizing the program using shortcut keys to permit speed and efficiency. Earlier versions of Quicken allowed Windows users to work without removing their hands from the keyboard. Not so with Quicken 2015.
    2. Technical support is useless.
    3. Sunset provisions require users to upgrade every few years in order to connect to banks, brokerages, etc. The program is all but useless without these features.

    Summary

After using Quicken since about 1990, I am waiting anxiously for an alternative. I have wasted many an hour trying to accomplish tasks that straightforward in the DOS version 20 years ago!

    Updated on Jun 16, 2015

And now (06/2015) the program is downloading erroneous fractional splits for my stock holdings (e.g. for TWX, 1:3.876471). If I accepted these "missing splits" it would corrupt my portfolio. A Quicken Community post from a rep indicates that the problem was being addressed. Needless to say Intuit has closed all threads in the Quicken Community pertaining to the topic (their usual practice to stifle customer complaint). Calling all developers: "We are waiting for you!"
