"WORST QUICKEN EVER (from a 20 year quicken mac user)"

October 25, 2014  |  By cmdred1

 |  Version: Quicken 2015

Pros

pretty interface

Cons

no online bill pay; when synching with bank accounts it double bookkeeps transactions, doesn't recognized memorized ones, and pre-marks them as reconciled them as they come in so to fully reconcile you have to de-mark each one. no home and business stuff, very poor reporting capabilities, on and on and on. Very sad.

Summary

I've used quicken for the mac since it came out in the 80's. Always loved it. This is absolutely the worst; almost unusable and lacking features of the one from the 80's.
I really really really wish I hadn't wasted the money. We have a saying in engineering: "BETTER IS THE ENEMY OF GOOD ENOUGH". This product is neither.

"Incomplete, don't buy"

August 28, 2014  |  By trebuin

 |  Version: Quicken 2015

Pros

Quicken brought full software to Mac

Cons

The software is incomplete with major bugs still present, missing features, and it doesn't display like it should. Not worth the money for the poor quality. Looks like corporate was pushing this out the door too hard.

"DON'T BUY THIS GARBAGE"

June 20, 2014  |  By jgerards

 |  Version: Quicken Essentials 2010

Pros

None over previous versions

Cons

No net worth reports or customizable graphs. More timely to enter transactions. no calculators at the amount entry.

Summary

I have used Quicken in different versions since 1998 starting with quicken 6 for windows PC. This simp first time with Mac and quicken essentials is so bad that we are going to use our laptop (windows PC )with Quicken 2004 deluxe ( which is a free version on the intuit website)- if you like Quicken you will soon revert. I can't believe the editors would give this trashy, cheap program 3 stars.

"Used Quicken PC for years. Quicken for Mac is useless."

April 06, 2014  |  By aericks

 |  Version: Quicken Essentials 2010

Pros

I don't know of any.

Cons

Not user friendly. Not able to generate reports. Total waste of money.

Summary

Don't buy it. Seriously, who designed this and who thought it was ready to be marketed? Hopefully we will all get a free software update that works as well, if not better than, the PC version. Very frustrating.

"Absolutely worthless!!!! Not worth even One star!"

March 22, 2014  |  By cafk

 |  Version: Quicken Essentials 2010

Pros

NONE, worthless, useless product

Cons

After using Quicken for PC for 12years, bought a MAC and Quicken essentials. Only after I transferred all data over, did I find out that there are no :"real" budgets reports, and most importantly, NO ABILITY TO DO AN ANNUAL BUDGET!!!!!!!! It is a total waste of money! Only morons could have designed and put out this awful piece of trash!

Summary

A total RIP OFF. Intuit should be put out of business for selling this worthless product.

"70% functional. Which isn't enough"

March 09, 2014  |  By MikeinAustinBB

 |  Version: Quicken Essentials 2010

Pros

Works mostly with my online accounts, including a few banks, my 401(k) and brokers, to download balances.

Simple to use. If you are looking for something that tells you what your account balance is like Mint

Reports are pretty easy to set up.

Cons

Can not put in an amortized loan. If you have a car loan, forget it. If you have a home loan, forget it.

Poor report writing. Very little control over reports

Summary

Using Mint is free, and about as functional. That it doesn't support the rudimentary capability of creating a loan (which it's Windows counterpart does fantastically) is another example of just abject laziness by Quicken. Which is why the CEO of Quicken was thrown off the board of Apple with Malice.

Intuit is a joke. It's painful to give this company money.

"Worthless, and worthless support, used to love quicken"

May 18, 2013  |  By lbsch

 |  Version: Quicken Essentials 2010

Pros

easy entry and easy reports. quicken used to be one of my favorite programs.

Cons

Won't download my accounts, when switching from old (!!!, they never upgraded for mac) quicken, it put in a bunch of phantom numbers. Therefore it wasn't my real data any more.

Summary

"Complete waste of time and money!"

April 15, 2013  |  By JPCase

 |  Version: Quicken Essentials 2010

Pros

OS 10.7 compatible

Cons

Won't import files downloaded from my bank. The only Quicken option is to pay a monthly fee for direct-connect. I could pay $50 for a file conversion app but why pay for a separate app to make Quicken work?
I contacted customer service and received a reply that was clearly a mass reply file, despite the fact that it didn't answer or address my concerns.

Summary

Don't waste your money. Try another program. Intuit has no interest in treating Mac owners as well as Windows owners.

What's new in version 2.2
  • Added a new feature to help you get setup for automatic downloads.
    • Choose Accounts > Setup Automatic Downloads and we'll help you get your existing Quicken accounts setup for Automatic Download when available. If you've recently converted from Quicken Windows or Quicken for Mac 2007 and have had trouble downloading, please give this new tool a try.
  • A ton of Download Matching improvements. For all of you that both manually enter transactions and download from the same account.
    • Investing transaction matching! Now manually entered investing transactions will match downloaded transactions. No more manual matching required (though you can still drag-and-drop to match transactions if something is missed).
    • Much improved transaction matching for cash & credit accounts. We've completely overhauled our download matching logic. Users that enter manual transactions and also download from the same accounts should see significant improvements.
    • Transfer matching. We now attempt to detect matches when you edit a downloaded transaction to make it into a transfer.
    • And how could we improve matching without doing the same for Un-matching: Added the ability to un-match a transaction even if you've already edited the matched transaction.
  • Merge Securities: Added the ability to merge securities in the Security List. If you see duplicates of the same security in your Portfolio or Security List, you can now merge them to have just one instance. This could also (optionally) be used in the case of a ticker symbol change for merging the old and new symbols while preserving the price history.
  • Multiple file import: You can now import more than one 2007 or Quicken Windows file into an existing Quicken Mac 2015 file. (Previously the import option would not be available after the import of the first file.)
  • Account Sync options: Now you can choose which Cash & Credit accounts to sync. (Previously we'd sync all Cash & Credit accounts if you turned on the Mobile option.)
  • Import Backups: Now we automatically create a backup of your 2007 or Quicken Windows .QXF file prior to import. You can find these backup files by going to Help > Show backups
  • New keyboard shortcut: (Ctrl + O) open a register or report in a new window. (Note that you can always double-click on any register or report in the sidebar to open it in a new window)
  • Added reset option to Bill Reminder filter bar
  • System date setting is now used for register date field.
Fixed
  • Fixed multiple issues with Quicken Windows and Quicken 2007 import--including the creation of duplicate securities during 2007 import. (Big thanks to all of you who submitted error reports and data files to help us fix these problems.)
  • Fixed issue that prevented download from Navy Federal Credit Union
  • Fixed issue where filters set in an Investing register transactions view was impacting Portfolio view
  • Fixed issue in Bill Reminder view where a transfer reminder caused an incorrect projected balance (total and graph) when multiple accounts were selected
  • Fixed error when trying to delete an account
  • Many mobile sync fixes and improvements
    • Fixed issue where deleting or changing a category could cause a non-recoverable sync error
    • Fixed issue where performing a mobile reset could cause an error on subsequent syncs
    • Fixed issue where alert preferences could be returned to default after a mobile reset
    • Fixed issue where doing a mobile sync from a duplicate file (or backup file) could cause an error
    • Fixed issue that could result in a synced account to no longer show up on mobile if the financial institution or connect method changed.
    • Fixed issue that could cause the Sync progress screen to hang after entering an incorrect password
  • Fixed multiple crash issues including:
    • Crash when using right-click filter bar or overview charts
    • Crash when trying to rename a file
    • Crash when importing a Quicken Essentials file that contained unexpected characters in category names
  • Fixed issue where Bill Reminder graph might draw incorrectly in Mac OS 10.7
  • Fixed multiple issues in setup flows including improved messaging for incorrect or invalid passwords
  • Fixed issue where price per share was not updating when editing a Sell Bonds transactions
  • We now ignore the "Automatically insert decimal point" preference in the investing "Shares" field (only)
  • A few tweaks for Yosemite (including an error where the Spending Over Time report was out of alignment)
