Publisher's description of QuickFacts Home Edition

From EndSight Software:

QuickFacts is an effective learning tool for memorizing multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction facts. It automatically targets a student's weaknesses and focuses on those specific problems in a separate review section. Students are quizzed with flash cards that provide auditory and visual feedback. Practice sessions can be selected for either one- or four-minute lengths. During a session, the student or parent can set a goal of the number of problems he wants to get correct. A progress chart immediately pops up after a training session to show how the student performed in relation to his goal. Mastery tests can be taken at any time. A detailed user's manual is accessible by clicking the help button.

  • "Math facts are all elementary"
  • Version reviewed: QuickFacts Home Edition 1.0
This application quizzes children on basic math equations, but we must voice concern about the unintuitive setup process and anemic demo. Upon launch, users are hit with a confusing dialog box asking for name and password. Eventually, we had to check out the help files to figure out how to sign in and create an account and password. Once you clear that hurdle, you'll find the interface both polished and straightforward. Only addition and subtraction problems are available in the 30-day trial, although multiplication and division are part of the full version. Kids are immediately informed whether the answer is correct or incorrect, but more robust reporting and graphing features are disabled in the trial version, as is the ability to actually take a test. We also didn't appreciate that the program placed a few shortcuts on our desktop without permission. With few notable customization options, QuickFacts is not head and shoulders above similar applications. However, primary students may use this program to brush up on very simple math skills.
