"Simple, limited, but does what I need."
Version: QuickBooks Simple Start Free Edition 2010
Pros
Intuitive interface makes it easy to set up and run if you have even limited accounting skills. It is really a super check register and more. Great bang for $0. And will prepare you for the next step as your company grows.
Cons
Don't try to run your entire manufacturing or distribution business with the free edition. Pony up a few bucks to go for the next level. A sole proprietor service company will find all you need with Free edition, but if you are an LLC or especially a Corporation (sub s or c) that has inventory, heavy billing, and lots of customers will be better off with the paid edition.

"Is it really worth it?"
Version: QuickBooks Simple Start Free Edition 2010
Pros
Free software good for beginners.
Cons
Software took too long to download. Don't think it's worth the wait after reading some of the reviews while downloading it.

"Disappointed in intuit"
Version: QuickBooks Simple Start Free Edition 2010
Pros
Quickbooks has a lot of nice features that I like. Easy to set up, create invoices, ETC.
Cons
Very disappointed that Intuit doesn't created the desktop version in simple start anymore. Also they took away the Estimates unless you pay more.
Also what about importing the old data from older versions of quickbook?Summary
They should not have taken away the estimate option and they really messed up when they took away the desktop version of simple start. Sorry, Intuit, you lost a costumer with me. I went back to Excel spreedsheet and am looking for free versions of accounting software.

Version: QuickBooks Simple Start Free Edition 2010

""Nice product, great for small business"
Version: QuickBooks Simple Start Free Edition 2010
Pros
As always intuit has really nice features and is simple to use.
Cons
I'm not a big fan of software I have to download to my PC. Web Based Saas is going to be the future for software that does billing, accounting, invoicing etc.
Summary
If you're looking for Windows base software that is very basic and easy to use I suggest this product. If your looking for a free web based solution to do the same things checkout GratisLite by Agilx.

"Great until Intuit won't let you use it"
Version: QuickBooks Simple Start Free Edition 2010
Pros
Excellent 'baby' version of the insanely priced full version. Once I got used to the interface, I could zing out an invoice in less than a minute (via email-a really cool feature BTW). Did not use it for anything else-invoicing only
Cons
One day go to create an invoice and the program tells me I HAVE to register with QB or I can not use the app. What a bunch of nonsense (insert your favorite expletive, this is a family show).
Summary
I'm a one man show. I'm on disability due to Stage III Renal Failure. The work I do is part-time, at best. I just need a FREE or low-cost application that will create (and email, if possible) professional looking invoices without checking up on my business like a surrogate "big brother." Simply put, If I like your freeware app I'll donate a few bucks for the cause but don't lock me out because I don't register with you and call it a "free" program.
Hey aandkanswers and kfarb! Thanks for your input and suggestions. I have a couple of Excel invoice templates that I use in a clutch. Guess I'm just lazy! I have to manually put everything in, convert it to PDF then attach it to an email. I'll check out Fresh Books. Sounds like what I'm seeking.

Again, thanks a lot for your help!
