"***** to you; not so happy with Apple."

November 02, 2007  |  By Andreas..

 |  Version: QuickAccessCM 1.7.2

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
As my most used CM, I have always had an added [space] before its name so that it was at the top of the list. Now Leopard makes me navigate a very unwelcome extra step into the "Moreâ?¦" submenu. I am eagerly looking out for a 'fix' that will enable this fantastically useful CM to be back "in-line" where it belongs.

IMO the Apple engineers should have considered that if a user goes to the trouble of installing a 3rd party item it is very likely that he really wants to use it!

YA excuse to give this product YA five stars. YA many, many thanks!

Incomparable! I thought I had a fluke at one time with this app. I wanted to just sit down and cry! It's right up there with massage. Somebody did something so, so, so doggone good, here! Thanks and thanks and thanks! May you have three wishes come true. This software puts everything I need right at my fingertips. I love it!

I just wanted an excuse to add another 5 stars as I have already done a few times! That Abracode should make this fabulous suite of CMs available free and always working purrrrfectly is truly magnificent.

"Indispensable CM"

I've been using this for years and years with never a hiccup and the same can be said of this release. It's one of those progs that you can't imagine using your computer without, and functionality that Apple should have included from the very start (especially if you use a two-button mouse or control-click a lot). Give it a try after reading the simple directions, and you'll be wondering how you've managed to get along without it. Stable, easy, simple, and extremely time-saving features.

Full Specifications

What's new in version 1.4
  • Separated menu name from from actual file or folder name in preparation for QuickAccess menu items editor. Although the items editor is not available yet, the CM plug-in itself is ready for new format. Your old preferences will be automatically converted to new version. You may manipulate items manually by editing preferences file:
    /Users/you/Library/Preferences/com.abracode.QuickAccessCMPrefs.plist

  • Aliases to items are no longer resolved during menu population. This brings two side effects:
    • Items are not removed automatically when the original item is deleted (dead link). However, such dead links are removed when you actually try to use them. Of course you may always remove an item by holding option key.
    • Menu generation should be faster if you have many items.
  • Help for first time users. Some users were confused that after installing the plug-in and ctrl-clicking on Desktop no additional menus were shown. It happened because first time users had empty lists of items for "Quick Access", "Move To" or "Copy To" so menus were not populated. In new version users will notice new menu items immediately and submenus will contain the information what to do next.
  • Dynamic menu names. When you press option key after contextual menu is shown, item names will be preceded with dash denoting that selecting given item with option key will remove it from the list.
