"Pro: gadget based dashboard. Con: individual tools are nothing special"

    November 25, 2007  |   By advaita101

Version: Quest Free Network Tools 2

    Pros

I think they're onto something with their dashboard. Allows you to create 'gadgets' which let you monitor such things as CPU/Memory on routers and switches (seems to only work w/ Cisco, however) as well as (for instance) 'availability' lists (displays ping time for items in list) among other gadgets. This is really cool and original.

    Cons

Individual tools are of little use (Ping scan, MAC scan, Wake on LAN..etc). Dashboard is cool but not very intuitive. Overall, however, sweet for a free download.

"Not as hot as the rest of these guys, but not bad for a free tool."

    November 22, 2007  |   By ITMetroArea

Version: Quest Free Network Tools 2

    Pros

Dashboard is cool, would be better with more gadgets. Reminds me of the live.com/google.com interfaces, but nicer as a local app.

    Cons

Not all that impressed about any of the individual tools, definitely not the best of the best, although it seems you can do some piping - for results which could be useful.

"Really clean UI. Simple Tools. All-in-one dashboard design... Thumbs up!"

    November 20, 2007  |   By netgeeksfo

Version: Quest Free Network Tools 2

    Pros

The most striking thing that differentiates this suite is the dashboard. A bunch of cool gadgets to drag and drop into as many dashboard pages as you want. I have a page for critical servers and another for all my network gear. Talk about status at a glance. The rest of the 'stock' tools are much better than the command line equivalents and are far more integrated than anything I have seen from Solarwinds or others in the same space. Can't wait to see what the next version includes! Keep up the good work...

"Integrated network diagnostic tools and VERY SLICK network monitoring dashboard"

    November 17, 2007  |   By darrinjacks

Version: Quest Free Network Tools 2

    Pros

I am impressed with the ease of use and the integration of tools into one package. Like all network admins, I have my 'toolkit' if you will that is comprised of individual tools I have collected over the years. This seems to have brought them together. The product also has a Dashboard where I can monitor critical network devices or app machines in real time. It has an iGoogle feel to it and gadgets change colors when warning and critical thresholds are reached. Very slick.

    Cons

Software needs more support for network devices, specifically Cisco. Need a larger inventory of dashboard gadgets. The company's website says these are coming soon. We'll see, but the software has great potential.

"Got me going in less than a minute"

    November 15, 2007  |   By ztrain2007

Version: Quest Free Network Tools 2

    Pros

I give it to the team in making it very easy to use. I like the way all the tools are integrated into a single interface. Definitely like the way I can customize my view with the tools I most often use. Dashboard looks promising, though I haven't really played with it. This is one feature that I haven't see in other tools I have used before

    Cons

More cisco support out of the bat would be a great + (though the site says it will be in pro version).

Some tools have settings in different places, it would be nice to have all tools confirm to a single interface

"cool dashboard, monitoring my cisco router with it now."

    November 15, 2007  |   By Itismyworld

Version: Quest Free Network Tools 2

    Pros

dasboard, the picture of the naked girl in the easter egg (go to packettrap.com) to find out more, and the ping/port scan tool. It's great for Cisco equipment and general dashboard / health of the network.

    Cons

It needs more VoIP monitoring because we're getting a voip system soon.

"Wow..this is a great tool suite. Dashboard is really cool too."

    November 15, 2007  |   By tendency101

Version: Quest Free Network Tools 2

    Pros

Very convenient to all these tools in one easy to use location instead of having to install individual ones. Ability to create gadgets on the dashboard is a very easy and useful way to monitor my mission critical devices.
