Publisher's Description
From Alan Phillips:
Programmer's File Editor is a 32-bit text editor primarily oriented toward program developers. Though it contains features such as the ability to run compilers and development applications, it also makes a good general-purpose editor for any other function. Features include multilevel undo, active buttons on a tear-off toolbar, automatic C-aware indenting, Unix file support, remappable keys, keyboard macros, and more.
While this file is still available, the developer is no longer updating or supporting this product.

"WINDOWS NOTEPAD IS BETTER."
Version: Programmer's File Editor (32-bit) 1.01
Pros
As plain as Windows Notepad.
Cons
Windows Notepad became better that this.
Summary
The development was stopped and you notice it; even the old Windows notepad has become better than this one.
If you want a fine, neat text editor, try ATech Professional Notepad - despite the Win98-looking interface, it has interesting feature - or EditPlus 3 - also a pretty good HTML editor. -

Cons
..........
Summary
I had heard this was a good editor for very large text files, but it choked on my 32MB text file with a "Could not allocate memory" error. Disappointing.

"The most classic programming editor (excellent)"
Version: Programmer's File Editor (32-bit) 1.01

"Fastest Editor Ever"
Version: Programmer's File Editor (32-bit) 1.01
Pros
Starts as fast as notepad (written in assembly).
Loads ridiculously large files almost instantly.
Macros are easy as pie.Cons
As a programmer's editor it's not that useful. But since it was developed in the early 90s, so what do you expect?
Summary
PFE is minimal, and ridiculously fast. It was written in pure assembly language and loads a 10MB file in a second, including program startup time.
The macro editor is great too, just record a set of keystrokes and replay by pressing F7 as many times as you need. -
"Great - very useful - simple text editor replacement for other WINTEL editors"
Version: Programmer's File Editor (32-bit) 1.01
Pros
cna write / save code files for unix systems from my PC and not have those stupid ^M characters in the file from a wintel machine. (Avoiding to use vi to replace the windows CR LF charaters at the end of every line.)
Love being able to configure as I like colors, line numbering and printer preferences.

"Great for Editing English Files"

Lacks support for non-English character encoding. In this respect, it is inferior to Notepad.
