This application quickly displays key information about your PC's active programs and searches its database to determine their permission levels. Don't let the prompt to update your program rules rattle you; just hit Cancel to enter ProgramChecker. The cluttered interface displays a list of your running processes, complete with program name, filename, location, CPU usage, and permission level. Highlight a program, select More Information, and the application takes you to ProgramChecker.com for helpful details including product, default location, and recommendations. We also like the program's ability to terminate a process with one click. What we didn't like is the large number of programs labeled Unrecognized in our tests. While there is an option to change permission levels from Unrecognized to Trusted, it's not available in the demo version. Warning: hitting the Take Snapshot link sends the list of programs running on your PC to ProgramChecker.com, so use caution. Despite some flaws, ProgramChecker has impressive features for users who desire to monitor and access detailed information about their programs.
