CNET Editors' review
ProShow Producer allows users to create impressive-looking slideshow presentations that blow Microsoft PowerPoint out of the water. But all this power comes at a price as its many features might easily overwhelm users.
The program's interface is attractive and sleek, but it contains a lot of options and it's not immediately obvious how a user should begin. A visit to the built-in Help file offers guidance and allows users to get started creating slides. The basics are easy, but users will need to take some time to figure out how to best exploit the many features that the program offers. And what a lot of features there are. All the standard slideshow features are here, but ProShow Producer contains many extras, such as the ability to upload your slideshow to YouTube or convert it to Flash. And even the standard features offer almost infinite tweakability, which is both a blessing and a curse; novice users will likely be confused and overwhelmed by all the options. We found the caption editing function--a pretty basic feature for any such program--to be somewhat awkward to use, which is a definite drawback for text-heavy presentations. But overall the software performed well, and the features proved to be as functional as they are numerous.
The software has a 15-day trial, which is likely not enough time for novice users to explore the full range of its possibilities. We recommend ProShow Producer for intermediate and advanced users who need to create complex multimedia presentations.

"Awesome piece of software"
Version: ProShow Producer 5.0.3297
Pros
Recently upgraded from ProShow Gold and there's so much more control and effects in Producer. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to create a high-end photo and video slideshow.
Cons
Can be a bit of a learning curve at first, but you quickly learn your way around after making a few videos.

"The upgrade is bound to upset a lot of users"
Version: ProShow Producer 5.0.3206
Pros
Glitzy and complicated
Cons
So far, it's lost the intuitive way that things could be done and removed a lot of important features. Some areas haven't changed or been developed - captioning generally is very basic, captions can't be layered in between pictures. I've run for a number of hours on a project that would have taken moments to make.
Summary
I wish that I had tried out the trial to save some money - but then, even if I had, my original programme was still overwritten and therefore unusable. Moral - if you use the old version a lot - stick with it.

"Great Software"
Version: ProShow Producer 4.52.3053
Pros
Outstanding in converting images to vibrant lively (&lovely) movie!
Cool transition effects and slides styles, can trim video, has simple chroma-key ability (blue/green-screen replacement). You have full control of every aspect of the effects (timing, motion, keyframed animations, sound volume...)Cons
When working with videos and transition effects, most of the time you'll want to freeze the video start until the video is completely visible. you can't. I though the solution will be to take a snapshot of the first frame apply the transition on the snapshot image and then start the video in the next slide. this is also impossible. I would expect the ability to take snapshots from video from such a software, it's a basic feature that is available even in windows movie maker.
Summary
Great software, really! but if you want to make a lot of work with videos, maybe you could find a different software.

"BEWARE! No Network Support!"
Version: ProShow Producer 4.51.3003
Pros
Most powerful slideshow creation tool available.
Cons
No network support! Must keep files on local drive.
Summary
I have a 12TB NAS device and I can't use it with ProShow Producer. I keep all of my working files on network storage (accessed via a gigabit network and high speed NAS) and according to Photodex support, network storage of files is "Not Recommended." Translated, that means that it's not supported. This means that in order to use their software I must modify my strict storage plan in order to accommodate their failings as a program. Now I have to copy the files over to a local drive, work on them, and then copy them back (to make sure that I have room on my local drives and ensure that those files make my backup schedule). It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth for what is otherwise a nice product.

"Worthless export options, slow, major problems on Vista"
Version: ProShow Producer 4.51.3003
Pros
Creates fun, dynamic fusion slideshows quickly.
Interface is easy to use and customizing layouts, effects, transitions a snap.
Good if you just want to watch on your computer no export.Cons
Eats CPU. I use 64bit advanced video editing software, this slows the system down horribly by comparison.
Doesn't work well on Vista.
Worthless export options - huge files, skipping audio, not really flash - viewers have to install a plugin!!!!Summary
I am going to dispose of this software and find something better. This is ridiculous. I am an IT professional, experienced video editor. I have every codec and advanced editing software. This piece of .. software, crashes when adding a few seconds of video in Vista. I tried the same few seconds in a multitude of formats, codecs and containers. The same videos worked on the XP box. They have got to be kidding with the export for web and video files. For flash - it exports as a .px file and requires viewers to install a plugin - are you joking?!?!?! So it's not really flash, just uses a SWF up front. Who's bright idea was this when flash works perfectly well and is ubiquitous. The export put my system to a crawl and I could hardly do anything else. The AVI files looked terrible without desaturate and worse with it enabled. The audio skipped in some formats. A 7 minute slide show with a total of 30 seconds video exported as over 11GB. WHAT? After spending hours without success getting it to work with videos on Vista, and hours trying to export something sensible on XP, I'm getting rid of this .

"Robust Multimedia Software"
Version: ProShow Producer 4.1.2737
Pros
Version 4 is by far the best yet. I build video presentations for clients and the software has exceeded my expectations.
Cons
It's not free. There is an optional annual upgrade cost that I feel is worth the $85 so its not really a con.
Summary
If you want to do multimedia slide shows with video, stills, audio, voice over, key framing abilities and a lot more than I can put into this space, then Producer is the software to buy.

"Does not work in a Vista machine"
Version: ProShow Producer 4.1.2737

Cons
the program options don't work.it won't accept the registration, updates and tech support only make it worse
Summary

"The "upgrade" turned my regtd. version into a trial ver"
Version: ProShow Producer 4.0.2549
Pros
Nothing! Nothing!
Cons
It was unfortunately that instead of getting an improvement, the action to upgrade from this download turned into a nightmare since what I got was a trial version from my registered one! This is completely unsatisfactory and totally contradictory!
Summary
I already explained above!
