From Konami:

Pro Evolution Soccer 5 (known as Winning Eleven 9 in North America) expands on the realism and total control that has become the bedrock of the popular series and has earned it a legion of fans. Also returning in improved form will be the Master League, wherein players can build and develop a team of no-hopers into an unbeatable team with a trophy room full of cups and accolades.

This demo allows you to try an exhibition match with Arsenal, Chelsea, Valencia, or Real Madrid.

  • "Precise passing on the pitch"
  • Version reviewed: Pro Evolution Soccer 5 demo

This year's edition of Pro Evolution Soccer looks much better and features some interesting new gameplay, but the PC version suffers from the console-heavy perspective that hampered previous versions.

As with most sports sims, a peripheral controller works better than the keyboard. Since the game engine is the same as PES4, veteran players will have no trouble jumping in. Although the reference material is console-based, referring to all the controls by their PlayStation symbols, newbies should still find it easy to learn how to play.

This main rival to EA Sports' license-rich FIFA Soccer allows for a five-minute exhibition match with top clubs Arsenal, Chelsea, Valencia, or Real Madrid in a choice of two stadiums. Graphics are demonstrably better than last year, especially on close-up animations, and the action on the pitch has slowed down realistically. Passing and dribbling require more skill and practice, and a new instep shot is a welcome addition for sharpshooters. The gameplay changes should add polish to this classic sports game, but we won't know for sure until we fire up the multiplayer in the full version; the demo only allows single-player matches.
