Prism Video File Converter Free is a capable, easy-to-use tool that can convert videos between most formats, including some uncommon ones, one by one or in batches. A clean, efficient user interface avoids the garish backgrounds and "styling" common to freeware video converters. Recent updates include FLV encoding and preview conversion output.
Device-specific: Prism's long Output format menu supports many specific devices as well as more than 30 file types, including less-common but increasingly popular formats like MKV and OGG, and even WAV and MP3 audio files.
Pop-up settings: Instead of burying important options in a nest of menus, specific options for each file format open directly from the compact, uncluttered interface.
DVD rips: Prism can extract and convert files directly from DVDs.
Fast: Conversion speed will depend on factors like file type and length and available system resources, of course. But Prism powered through videos, converting them at the highest quality settings at a rate that shamed many similar tools.
Marketing on the toolbar: Upgrade, Share, and Suite buttons on the toolbar take up a lot of space yet do nothing for the tool's performance or the toolbar's appearance.
Prism Video File Converter Free is a step up from YouTube-only converters and their derivatives, yet it's just as easy to use -- even easier in some cases.

Does it for only about 3 months at a time. The software likes to auto update itself, and the license that you buy is only good for about 3 months. The programmer's website FAQ does state that if you intend on using this product for any length of time, you really need to write down your registration code, AND backup the software folder you installed to so you can roll back the version of software when the Auto Update erases your ownership of the product you bought.
I purchased this software in October of 2012 (13 Months ago). I use it pretty rarely, but when I need it... Well I need it. I open the program today, and get a "Your free trial has ended - Please purchase this product", and then the program closed itself.
I found my emailed registration code, and inputted it. That's when I got the "Sorry Pardner - You're using an outdated code for this version of software, please buy a new one".
I call BS on this practice.
Don't buy software that likes to erase your ownership over it, and then attempts to extort more money out of you before you can use it again.
It's a shakedown no matter how you look at it, and it's not right.
NCH's website seems shady. I normally would not have bought product from a site with no way to contact customer service. But that's ancient history. I am really writing this review because having already purchased a license, I was not allowed to use the software today because my license was for an older version. In other words, I am being penalized because I own an older version of a program. WTF! BUYER BEWARE......
I will never ever ever ever buy from this company again! I spent a lot of $$$ to buy a suite of their software only to find out today it is locked because there is an updated version of the software and I own a license for the previous version. I mean WTF!

BTW I bought the program for no other reason than CNet's endorsement. I assumed their stamp of approval meant NCH is a reputable, fair and honest company. You failed us CNet.
I agree... I feel totally ripped off. How can my software not work only a year after buying it? When you try to get support from NCH, there's no phone number or email address. Just a FAQ that says, "Hey... If your code doesn't work, its for software that was updated. Your code may not work if your ownership of the product is more than 3 months old. Always remember to 'Back Up' your installation folder and roll back to a previous version of software to correct".
That's not cool. Definitely not cool of CNET to give this software 4 out of 5 stars for this company's shady business practices.
