Editors' Review

To create ISO files to burn in Windows, you need a third-party tool like PowerISO. PowerISO boasts single-click ISO extraction, Blu-ray compatibility, and the ability to edit ISO files directly. It also rips and burns audio CDs, compresses files, creates bootable USB drives, and more.

Pros

Windows integration: PowerISO's setup options include file associations, autostart on boot, shell menu integration, and the ability to create up to 23 virtual drives. Changes require a reboot.

No-nonsense layout: PowerISO's user interface isn't flashy, but it's efficient, well rendered, and perfectly suited for the job.

Virtual drive manager: Right-clicking the Virtual Drive Manager in the system tray let us quickly unpack and mount ZIP, RAR, 7Z, and ISO files; set the number of virtual drives; open PowerISO; view Help; and more.

Reliable: If you've ever turned blank discs into drink coasters with a bad ISO file or inadequate burning software, a premium tool like PowerISO can help earn its keep with fewer failures.

Cons

Costs money: PowerISO isn't expensive for premium software, but plenty of free tools do a perfectly good job, too.

Bottom Line

PowerISO is definitely a top choice for creating and burning ISO files in Windows. You get what you pay for in performance, reliability, and extras, but whether PowerISO is for you might depend on how often you create ISO files and burn discs. If you only burn a disc now and then, you might want to try a free tool first. For "frequent fryers," PowerISO might be a bargain.

Editors' note: This is a review of the full version of PowerISO 6.0. The trial version has limited functionality.

"MALWARE MALWARE MALWARE MALWARE"

October 19, 2014  |  By PowerISO=Malware!!

 |  Version: PowerISO 6.0

Pros

Great if you like Malware
Great if you like having your browser hijacked
Great if you have endless hours to spend removing hard to find malware

Cons

Malware is automatically installed unbeknown to you. ANd after unistalling PowerIso it remains.. Its then very hard to track down all the malware and remove it.

It changed my browser home to some rubbish search engine.

Also, Unless you pay the hefty 29.99 (malware still comes with the payed version - great thinking PowerISO!!) you are limited to making images of upto 300mb. Well isn't that great!

Summary

Garbage. I cant believe its acceptable to install unwanted crap on my computer without giving me an option to either not install it or to uninstall it afterwards. What kind of a business are you guys running?? its a joke.

I hope PowerISO goes bankrupt!

"Don't Trust"

September 14, 2014  |  By doyling

 |  Version: PowerISO 5.9

Pros

Works with ISO

Cons

Tries to install 2 PUP that it prompts for. One of them is Mezaa. Then changes your home page and search engine without consent, and installs SearchProtect crapware.

Summary

Untrustworthy. When your business model is tricking people and shoving unwanted crap onto someone's system. You have a bad business model and not ethical. Run away from this program.

"PowerISO ADMITS including Search Product From Conduit!"

May 25, 2014  |  By NeilSalemMA

 |  Version: PowerISO 5.9

Pros

PowerISO claims that one can de-select Search Product From Conduit at the beginning of the installation of PowerISO ...but

Cons

Search Product From Conduit is pre-selected at the beginning of the installation. I'm not convinced that de-selecting it will prevent if from being installed. IF it is installed, it's not even close to being benign software. It deserves the most pejorative name: MALWARE!

Summary

I wrote to the support folks at poweriso.com and asked them to explain all of the reviews here that complain loudly about malware and spyware in this product. They replied:

"Thank you for your message. PowerISO setup file contains Search Protect from Conduit. You can skip it during installation. You can also download PowerISO pure version from below links. The pure version doesn't contain any other offer."

I am not supplying their links for the "pure" version since I cannot trust them.

The Search Product From Conduit is a nasty bit of software that is nearly impossible to remove. You can't simply go to Add/Remove Programs! Read this LONG article from Lavasoft that describes a removal procedure:

http colon slash slash www.lavasoft.com / mylavasoft / company / blog / how-to-remove-search-protect-by-conduit-ltd

I cannot understand how or why CNET would allow such malicious software to be distributed here! ARE YOU READING THIS CNET?

"MALWARE!!!!!"

May 17, 2014  |  By vertical2010

 |  Version: PowerISO 5.9

Pros

None, due to installation of malware.

Cons

Got a while? Would give it zero stars if I could. As others have mentioned, PowerISO installed a browser hijacker (Conduit search) without my consent (I had deselected it). It reset browser settings, deleted history and saved tabs on Firefox. It also installed some sort of phone-home adware that I had to root out with Malwarebytes, which reported it ad "dangerous." I strongly recommend you not do business with a company that operates like this.

Summary

Look elsewhere.
