"Get's the job done and done well!"
Version: PowerGrep 4.3.1
Pros
Decent interface.
Cons
None that I could find

"POWERFUL, Feature-rich!"
Version: PowerGrep 3.5.5
Pros
Works fantastically, very easy to use, great featureset.
Cons
Price. I really love JG Soft's software, but I can't justify the $149 purchase price. Others with half the features are 1/5 the price like Windows Grep at $30.
Summary
Amazing app, but not amazing enough to justify the purchase price.

"Full functioned and fast"
Version: PowerGrep 3.4.1
Pros
I have not found anything I wanted to do that PowerGrep could not do.
Cons
Rather steep learning curve. Selection of output formats and locations may be found confusing.
Summary
I was especially pleased to find that PG could search the files included in .pptx archives. At times it's difficult to tell whether PowerGrep is running or it has ended. For instance, there have been extensive searches I was doing, but then wanted to stop PG in mid-search. Other than the Stop icon being disabled, it was hard to tell if it was still prociessing or not - I found myself looking at the HD light on my PC to see if system was doing anything, hard disk-speaking ).
I've used it to do regex replaces against .pptx files, and it performed flawlesly -- I'm exteremley happy with the product, and its support. -
"Product does not work with Microsoft Word 7"
Version: PowerGrep 3.4.1
Pros
Immensely complicated.
Cons
Advertizing fails to mention that it doesn't work with Office 2007. Company has no technical assistance by phone. Wasted several hours attempting to make it work, emailed my problem only to find that it was their intentional omission. Unethical.

"Powerful, Polished and Sophisticated"
Version: PowerGrep 3.3.1
Pros
I evaluated most of the top search and replace downloads on CNET one evening, and found PowerGREP was the most powerful, polished, and sophisticated of those I saw.
PowerGREP scans text, Word, Excel, PDF, and ZIP files. Its regular expression support is unmatched (this is the same company that publishes the clever and unique RegexBuddy programming tool). Other important features include batch replace, saved configurations, sectioning, searching in file names, multiple root folders, statistics, and backup/undo.
MOST IMPORTANTLY for me: this was the only search and replace tool that offered effective previewing of found results in context. The built-in editor shows line numbers, results, and surrounding text, and does it all with syntax highlighting!
The user interface is beautiful. And the online help is excellent: publication quality.
Cons
The program can be a bit overwhelming at first. Many, many options are exposed -- more than the casual or beginning user probably wants. It is a bit sluggish to startup and shutdown. It seems to lack any file management features, such as deleting/renaming found files, or opening Windows Explorer on a directory. Lastly it is expensive, though the price seems justified given the power and quality implementation.

"Text Workers Dream"
Version: PowerGrep 3.2.1
Pros
If you work with data, you need PowerGrep. From quick basic keyword searches through multiple files; to complex find/replace routines through several folders in a project to extracting e-mail addresses from an entire mail base -- PowerGrep is the most powerful tool out there when it comes to working with text.
Cons
Programmers, web developers and anyone else who works constantly with text should give it a spin but most average users won't have enough use for PowerGrep to justify its price.
