Editors' Review

Countless different music players are available in the Play Store, but there are only a few that stand out. PowerAMP Music Player for Android is one of them because of its simplicity and solid performance.

Installation and setup of PowerAMP Music Player for Android are fairly simple. This version, however, is a 15-day full-featured trial, and to unlock the full version you have to purchase the PowerAMP Full Version Unlocker for $3.96. The interface of this music player is straightforward and simple. The general layout of the home screen consists of a black background and high-contrast icons. Performance of this app is great and sound quality is on par with other high-end software. The overall stability is great too, and the resource usage is pretty standard. There are no unnecessary CPU drains or pop-up advertisements. This music player offers some paid, add-on features such as widgets, skins, and enhancements, which can be purchased separately. The end result is a customizable and well-designed music player that performs properly.

If you are browsing around for the next great thing in music player apps, try this one. PowerAMP Music Player for Android enhances the music-listening experience and would be a welcome addition on any Android device.

 |  Version: PowerAMP Music Player for Android 2.0.1 build 455

Easily customizable for practically every user with a great 10 band EQ which offers both custom and preset settings. Easy to use interface with custom skins to suit your tastes. Vast support for all major file formats including FLAC and WMA-lossless. Offers easy editing of tags and album art including downloading new art from the internet or choosing from your files. New updates are included in the purchase price. You can try out the full player for 15 days to decide if you like it.

No video playback or DLNA support.

I've tried many different players including Player Pro, Rocket Player, Google Player, Samsung Player and more. None of them offers the same level of user control of sound settings and format support. The ten band equalizer gives you excellent control of each frequency band or you can use the presets. You can make and save your own presets. There are also bass and treble controls which work in a similar fashion to those found on receivers. You can even save your setting for individual songs. Album art is customizable and you can download new art directly from the app. You can also edit the tags. Poweramp supports flac and WMA-lossless for playback of high quality sources. Many players mistakenly break up an album into two albums but this isn't a problem with Poweramp. The interface is simple to operate but with most every available option you can think of because this player has been in development since the early days of Android. It's certainly worth the current price of $3.99. About the only things this player doesn't do is play video files (like the Rocket Player) or offer DLNA support (like the Samsung player.) Overall it's my favorite player because it offers the best sound available especially when you have a high quality source such as a lossless file. Even though I had 15 days to try it out I knew I wanted it after a couple of hours of listening to the best sounds I've ever heard from a portable device.

none for me

doesn't play most of my audio files; no support

I had terrible problems getting my audio files toplay on the native Android player. I downloaded many 3rd party apps to fix the problem. To no avail. PowerAmp is unfortunately no exception. It will play some files but not others - even when they are the same format. Doesn't matter whether its mps, m4a, wav, or alac. It doesn't even give me an error message that's useful as an explanation or solution. Just "can't play the file." I give up. :((

We too the subwoofer out of my cars and the music sounds weird without the amp on, but with this app when I play my music through my car speakers it sounds as if my system was hooked up. Easy to sort, and make a playlist and edit.

Don't like how it retrieves music files on your phone and sorts them.

This app is awesome and definitely worth paying for after the app is done. It really works, I do not have any problems or crashes with it. I can control it through my bluetoothn(Plantronics: dual stereo headset) as well
