"Great program for basic image manipulation"

      October 12, 2011   |   By Brent212

      Version: Polyview 4.44

      Pros

Love the shift+ctrl+v function to paste copied image into current image, how the image shows up and then you can move it around to place it in the correct spot. Best slide show I've found. Best image resizing I've found.

      Cons

Could have a better interface for stepping through images in a directory. I think the way to do it is shift+page up/down, but it'd be nice, for those less technically inclined, to have some sort of arrow buttons to click on like the Windows Image Preview thing, and/or to let the arrow keys do it. I use IrfanView for this, just because you can use the arrow keys with that.

      Summary

It's the only image program I know of that has a slide show feature that can work with a given directory (or set of directories), and if you add images to the directory while the slide show is playing, those images will be displayed in the slide show. Slide show functions on other programs I've used do this stupid initialization thing where all the images get added to some database before the show begins. Pretty ridiculous, when it could simply look at the directory as it goes, like Polyview does.

"The best image program I have ever used."

      February 04, 2011   |   By kenny_davis

      Version: Polyview 4.42

      Pros

Quick and easy to use Quickly size pictures for emails

      Cons

Does not have a right click resize as Microsoft Power Toy Did

      Summary

PolyView is a fast and powerful image viewer, conversion, and printing utility for Windows. PolyView is designed to be easy and intuitive to use for beginners, but has the advanced image manipulation, printing, and management features needed for dealing with large image collections.

"An excellent low cost image manager/editor"

      December 09, 2010   |   By growver

      Version: Polyview 4.41

      Pros

Excellent tool quality, e.g. resizing algorithms, etc; easy access to almost all tools; easier to use for many image manipulations than is PhotoShop; great help function; absolutely excellent support form the developer

      Cons

Does have just a bit of a learning curve, but is more accessible than PSE and especially Photoshop.

      Summary

I've used Polyview for years, and I've used Photoshop and Photoshop Essentials extensively. I think PV is a better tool for many manipulations, and for basic photo management. It doesn't do some of the more advanced manipulations, and does not use the layers metaphor, but provides easy access to many sophisticated sizing, cropping, color adjustment, and other tools. First class. Cheap. Excellent support from the developer. Supports pretty much everyfile type.

"Excellent for viewing and managing image collections."

      April 06, 2009   |   By ackiss-l

      Version: Polyview 4.40

      Pros

Excellent for image collections, with thumbnails, image conversion, resizing, batch processing, lossless rotation, slide show, customizeable, good basic editing, many image formats, good support, and much more.

      Cons

Not many. One "exports" an edited imaged rather than "saves" it - which struck me as an odd metaphor. This is not an advanced photo editor (though it does all the basic things like redeye reductions and infinitely variable rotation).

      Summary

I have used this program almost every day for ten years or more. It is fast, reliable, sensibly designed. This is the only shareware I ever actually bought!

"Large number of graphics formats, lots of technical options, some problems"

      February 16, 2005   |   By PicMan

      Version: PolyView 4.22

      Pros

Can handle a wide variety of raw picture camera formats. Outstanding display of a picture's EXIF information, better than any program except PicViewPlus. There are about 15 transition effects. An audio file can be played with a particular picture.

      Cons

Everything seems to be crammed into one window. You can't use thumbnails to select a picture. The zoom center point isn't always where it is expected upon zoom in. EXIF information can't be updated. The only captioning allowed is the picture file name in the lower-right corner of the picture. It can't be resized or repositioned. The Print function doesn't feature much flexibility. The program sometimes seems awkward to use.
