"Slowed down my computer and flagged up s malicious"

    April 2, 2014  |   By LittleL88

    Version: Pokki 0.266.0.377

    Pros

Does what it says it will do

    Cons

Very bloated and memory hungry. My Computer kept running out of memory when I had this program installed. Also McAfee flagged up 4 security issues upon installing the program, although it was able to remove them and the program still worked.

    Summary

    Avoid.

    "instantly disliked this when"

    March 2, 2014  |   By rogermanawatu

    Version: Pokki 0.266.0.377

    Pros

It is not a virus and it did download and install,

    but
I saw that it was advertizing sleezy looking gaming apps,
the one thing I avoid on my computers, since they are addictive, time wasting and bad for kids.

    Cons

    1. it is not really the start button, as it treats computing as a raft of trendy apps, rather than a list of Programs that you use to get things done. I am not a tablet user and I not into win8 metro at all
    2. I am very sensitive about having programs that continually advertise things and products, so I really fon't like this in my face, right on my start menu.
    3.

    Summary

I used it for 2 minutes and then looked up how to uninstall. It was recommended by Lenovo, shame on them. it is gone now, and StartIsBack is back as the Start Button. I feel sorry for Microsoft in a way, in my opinion they started off well and then got too big. People are going to find the money to go Apple, Chrome, Android and Ubuntu and avoid the trendy very annoying and expensive world of Microsoft. The other thing I don't get about MS is the price of Office, really expensive for what it is. they expect the average user to shell out hundreds of dollars every few years for a new suite, that has had a few tweaks.
Back to Pokki. Poooki spooky advertware. Apart from my instant dislike to Pokki, I see that others are quite impressed with it because it gives back a start button to Win 8 .
I strongly recommend StartIsBack, to restore your windows experience. there are others, and they only cost $3, which is worth it.

MS are just totally ignoring the outrage they have created by getting us very proficient at Start button, Programs and away you go, then suddenly removing it and making it go away. They are saying to all their old customers, go away, we only care about tablet and touchscreen users now. MS is desperate to become the new Tablet King, but they are going to end up as the King of Bling, and get thrown away.
I personally and saving up to buy a MacbookPro to get away from MS Office, virus's and heavy maintenance problems with MS. I installed Ubuntu on all the schools computers to help deal with all our virus problems that the students were having and am very happy

Pokki was easy to uninstall, BUT it left a lot of registry entries. I got rid of them and found to my dismay that my normal windows startup was broken. It hung and went black after logon, sooo ofter doing a system restore it got fixed. Pokki is risky and flakey, I don't recommend it. Get another Start Button and pay $3 for one that behaves like Win 7 instead. Save up and buy MAC

    "life-saver for windows 8"

    March 25, 2013  |   By viskr

    Version: Pokki 0.261.11.361

    Pros

Gives you a familiar face to a Windows 8 system
    Quick to install

    Cons

    None so far

    Summary

I recently added a new PC, retiring an old Windows 7 machine. I use a variety of engineering applications (schematic capture, PCB layout) as well as editors and various compilers, then the typical Office apps like Excel and Word. So my PC is a work horse, and while maybe someday I'll transition to the Metro style interface, my goal was to be up and running on the new system ASAP. Pokki lets me do that as I was able to bring up all my normal tools in a quick manner.

Don't get me wrong, I love my iPad and things it does, it does real well; but I would never try to do some of the things I do on my PC on a tablet. Unfortunately Win8 is aimed at that tablet world and while in the long run who knows maybe I'll get a windows phone and then the unified interface might be nice. But again I'm not going to do a board layout on a 4 inch screen.

So if you're like me and you want to use your old start menu on a new machine (you may not have a choice over windows 8 later this year). This is definitely an app to install.

    "Won't run on my PC."

    December 30, 2012  |   By Beyond_Malachi

    Version: Pokki 0.260

    Pros

unknown - I seem unable to install the programme at all.

    Cons

Running the exe downloaded from Pokki directly results in the following error:
"Installation failed - Sorry! Something went wrong. If you continue to encounter this error please visit http://support.pokki.com"

It provides no explanation for the error, no log files, and no actual support at the support.pokki site.

The download helper, downloaded via CNET (but not CNET's own download helper) produces a similar error:
"Sorry! Something went wrong" which offers a "Help me fix this" button that links to the same support site which provides no help.

"Still needs work to find it's potential."

    December 4, 2012  |   By qaam

    Version: Pokki 0.260

    Pros

    Neat program, works well.

    Cons

Dosen't match up to Google Chrome

    Summary

For Windows 8 users who want the old 'start' button, Pokki may be useful. I only installed it because I had downloaded a couple free games from utorrent that required Pokki to run.
I, however installed it on my netbook running Windows 7 & though it works fairly well, I can't see that it would be of much use.The interface window filled most of my screen, & though there was a settings option to move it to any of the four corners of the screen, the window stayed stubbornly where it was. It could not be dragged across the screen either.
The sample apps I got from the Pokki web store all worked, but the choice was somewhat limited. Presumably this will improve in time. However the windows that the games appeared in are mainly too big for a netbook screen & either will not or cannot be re-sized.
I use Google Chrome & find that Pokki is a poor substitute to the combination of browser & app store that Google offers. (I'm aware that I'm not comparing like for like, but it's close enough).
In short, Pokki has limitations at present, though I can see the potential for greatness if & when it's limitations are corrected.

"Fantastic way to access my favorite apps and games!"

    August 4, 2012  |   By alanmasarsky

    Version: Pokki 0.250

    Pros

One-click access to my favorite apps like Gmail, Facebook, and even Instagram (Instagrille)! I get real-time notifications to alert me of things that are happening on my apps instantly. Super easy to install, and some of the apps look cooler than the actual sites.

    Cons

Some productivity apps that I use every day are missing from the Pokki Store. But I'm assuming they will come soon -- staying tuned :-)
