    "Not to shabby"

    Version: PocketMac for BlackBerry 3.12

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Nice little app. I only use it to sync iCal and AddressBook in OS 10.4.5 with a BlackBerry 7750 running handheld software version 4.0.0.171. I had to set the BlackBerry to NOT sync the calendar and addressbook with the Enterprise server before PocketMac would sync these 2 items. That is not clear in any of the documentation that comes with the free download of the software. The support site for PocketMac appears to be down more than it is up. The menubar icon never stays in my menu bar. Other than a few little annoyances this app is very nice and works well.

    "Not even out of alpha"

    January 23, 2006  |   By Mackidockie

    Version: PocketMac for BlackBerry 3.12

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.

PocketMac for BlackBerry is by far the worst piece of software I've used on a Mac since 1984. RIM should have PocketMac's head on a pike.

    • The GUI is completely un-Mac and counter-intuitive. Steve Jobs would have a cow.
    • The dock icon bounces just because it can; it does this even when the application requires no attention.
    • The popup windows have unclear, poorly written instructions.
    • The application frequently reverses the work and home e-mail addresses in Address Book.
    • Worse, important advanced functions are completely obscured by hiding them in the Library directory.

PocketMac for BlackBerry works--after a fashion--but the learning curve is indecently steep, and its functionality opaque. PocketMac needs to look at its counterpart for Windows to see how simple and intuitive a program like this should be and rewrite this application with the Mac end user in mind.
