Version: Pocket Notepad 1.4
"BE CAREFUL !!!! TEST FIRST !!!!"
Summary: IT MAY WORK FOR YOU, BUT HERE IS MY EXPERIENCE...
they say "Files are saved as pure text, without any formatting."
it may save without formatting but it does place control characters in the text (ie. a solid block in the place of CR, SPACE between each character) - it may be ok if you are only going to use this program to read/write the files (as these control codes are not visible) but if you are going to open the same file later with another program (ie. windows notepad or word on your desktop etc), you will have a very long string of characters with a space between each character and solid blocks where theshould be - if you open a file created in pocket notepad with pocket word on the pda you will only see the first character!!!!
!!! test it carefully first !!!
they say "This editor functions the same as Windows Notepad."
well... see above BIG difference
they say "PNotepad can open any file, even non-text files."
i could not open a 32k text file (it would open a 19k text file) and i could not open any .doc word files (even 3k in size)
this program might be perfect for your needs (ie. only read/write files in pocket notepad format only) but backup your data first then it test VERY CAREFULLY !!!!
many PPC power users pop the SD card out of the PDA and into the desktop card reader when at the office/home, work on the same files as normal with desktop programs then return the SD card to the PDA when they leave the office - because this program does not leave the files as a basic text file you will be unable to do this - this workflow method is very popular when you have many files (1000's) on your SD card and then you don't have to use the sync except when you install a new program to the pda (backup also is a simple drag and drop)
AGAIN, IT MAY WORK FOR YOU BUT THIS WAS MY EXPERIENCE...
cheers!

- Publisher's reply:
The issues listed in review by "the watcher" were fixed by the version 1.4 upgrade. PNotepad now defaults to plain ASCII text, and only saves in Unicode if the original files was created in that format by another program.
